Messages from the Year 2 Team
Hello everyone! We hope you had lots of fun being scientists last
week and conducting experiments.
This week we will have an art week. Our Literacy work will be very
art-based as we will be creating our own comic strips.
For maths this week our focus is on multiplication. We will practise
recalling our 2s, 5s and 10s before attempting some reasoning and
problem solving.
It’s been great to see so many of your fantastic photos, please keep
sending them to: year2@thelanes.notts.sch.uk
PSHE – Stories
There are a lot of changes going on at
the moment and it can be tricky. Here
are a few stories that might help if you
are feeling worried.

Maths
This week we will consolidate recap multiplication. We will
practise recalling our 2s, 5s and 10s times tables through the
use of White Rose Maths videos. On the website you will see
a collection of problem solving activities to try at home. You
might choose a couple of these activities a day. We have also
uploaded parts of the Power maths slides which have a daily
problem and challenge/discussion to have a go at. This
provides more structure for those who like it. Daily fluency
is to be completed every day.
English
This week we will be creating a comic strip! This can be about
whatever you like, from superheroes to Minecraft to puppies on
an adventure! See the Literacy page for more details.
We also have the usual daily activities of spelling, handwriting
and phonics. There are 2 phonics videos this week about
contractions to help with this week’s spellings.

Art – Lichtenstein
Explore the artwork of Roy Lichtenstein.
These are an example of pop art and he
is influenced by comic books.
Have a look at the PowerPoint on the
website and the pictures below (I
wouldn’t just Google as some pieces are
not fully appropriate!)
Could you have a go at a Lichtenstein
style ‘explosion’ that might be seen in a
comic strip? This video might be helpful.

Art – Comic strip drawing
Practise drawing for your comic strip.
Once you have started your Literacy
work and decided what you want your
comic strip to be about, have a couple of
tries at drawing key characters.
If you have animals in your comic, you
might want to watch Draw with Rob on
Youtube as he has many good tutorials.
Then think about how you will lay out
your comic strip. You will need several
boxes for your pictures. There are a few
templates below if you wish to use them
or you could draw your own.
Send us photos when you are done!
If you want to do a bit more…

PE
Have a go at some dance via
these ‘Just Dance’ videos.

Alternatively, you might like
to have a go at a game of
twister or create your own
hopscotch with chalk outside.
Happy Birthday!
We would like to wish the
following year 2 pupils a
very happy birthday!
Isla B – 6th July
Liam – 6th July
Leo – 11th July
We hope you have a
fantastic day!
Have a look at these pieces of art by Roy Lichtenstein and think/talk about these questions.
• Do you like or dislike them? Why?
• Which is your favourite and why?
• What is the same about all of these pictures? What is different?
• What do you notice about the colours Lichtenstein uses? What about any patterns?
