Problem:Many of Penn State Hazleton’s buildings and

systems are well-aged and out of date. With rising costs of fuel, higher demand for alternative energy use, and the demand of a better environment, it is time for Penn State to invest in a ‘green’ environment.

Awareness:One of the most simple, yet effective

solutions is to basically raise awareness throughout the campus- including faculty and students…

Upgraded Systems/BuildingsHeating SystemsWindows

Solar Energy

Using any type of Solar technology can be very beneficial.

Can constantly produce usable current

Relatively simple to installCosmetics are not terrible.Solar thermal technologies

can be used for water heating, space heating, space cooling and process heat generation.

Wind TurbinesWind energy is a

great source of usable current.

Also easy to installDepending on size,

can be very visible and impede views.

Useful in NEPA region.

Geothermal Energy

Little to no changes in area cosmetics.Little to no maintenance, built to last. As long as the Earth is around, it will

produce energy.Installation“According to the U.S. Environmental

Protection Agency, geo-exchange systems save homeowners 30-70 percent in heating costs, and 20-50 percent in cooling costs, compared to conventional systems.”
