● Now Dean of Academic Affairs for The Pennington School, Dr. James Hickey provides leadership to the boarding and day school, which is comprised of several hundred pupils.

● In early December 2012, nearly 40 students from The Pennington School traveled to Washington to explore questions of church and state.

● While there, the upperclassmen had the chance to meet Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito as well as a government chaplain and the staff of a local congressman.

● The students also visited a number of notable sites, including the Jefferson Memorial, the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, and the National Museum of American History.

● While meeting with Justice Alito, the students learned about the role of the Supreme Court, whose members receive appointments as opposed to being elected.

● Alito also described the current case load as "challenging," which pupils saw firsthand when the court's docket was announced during their stay.
