YO HO HO AND A BOTTLE OF FUN

Pirate Narrative

PromptFor this project, you

will be writing a story based on the picture prompt to

the right.

Take a good, hard look. Think about

who the main character will be in your story (Pirate or

the Pirate Muncher?), what the setting is, and who the characters are. Next, think about

what problem they will have to overcome.

BEFORE YOU START WRITING YOUR NARRATIVE STORY YOU NEED TO PLAN IT!

Story Plan

Beginning• Characters• Setting• Problem

Middle• Attempt #1 – Fail• Attempt #2 – Fail

End• Attempt #3 - Solution

Here’s an example of what a good story plan looks

like:

THE BEGINNING OF A NARRATIVE STORY SHOULD INTRODUCE THE CHARACTERS, DESCRIBE THE SETTING, AND EXPLAIN

WHAT THE PROBLEM IS.

Questions

By the end of your first paragraph you

should be able to ask yourself these questions and

answer “Yes” to each.

Writing Your First Sentence

Review

•Pirate Captain•Johnny Dolittle•Horrible Sea Monster

Characters

•Tiny island in the middle of the ocean

Setting

•The pirates are stuck on a horrible sea monster!

Problem

THE MIDDLE OF A NARRATIVE CONTAINS THE ATTEMPTS THAT FAIL . THESE ARE THINGS THAT THE

MAIN CHARACTER TRIES TO DO TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM THAT DON’T WORK.

Middle

StrategyTo write the

attempts that fail we’ll be using a strategy called

TIEFET.

You’ll use this amazing structure twice in the middle

to write two fantazmonious

attempts that fail.

Attempt #1 - Fail Attempt #2 - Fail

Middle

THE END CONTAINS THE FINAL ATTEMPT TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM WHICH WORKS, RESULTING IN THE

SOLUTION.

End

Strategy

To write the end of your narrative you’ll be using a new strategy: TIEES.

T – Transition I –Idea E – Event’s Action

E – Emotion S - Solution

Completed Narrative

Congratulations!

I feel so accomplished.
