Expectations Prior To Kindergarten
Be able to say first and last name when asked Be able to follow a direction given by an adult Be able to sit and listen for ten minutes Be able to focus on a task for five minutes Be able to demonstrate self-help skills for
snack time Be able to demonstrate self-help skills for
bathroom use and hand washing
Preparation For Kindergarten*Encourage independence with self-help activities
*Talk about school in a positive way*Discuss anxieties and reassure your child
*Encourage any attempts to read, write, and count*Practice opening lunch bags, lunch containers, typical
snack containers, juice boxes/juice bags*Discuss the lunch menu and the choices for
“hot lunch” prior to each school day*Practice snapping, buttoning, and zipping clothing and
tying shoes*Discuss use of bathrooms, sinks, and the importance of
washing hands properly*Discuss the importance of following the school rules
A Typical Day In Kindergarten
*90 minutes of Language Arts (Reading Readiness, “Treasures”, Phonemic Awareness, Writing, Listening Skills, Story Time)*60 minutes of Math*Integrated Science and Social Studies*5 “Specials” per week (Music, Art, Health/P.E. twice weekly, Library/Computer Lab) ~ 44 minute period
*Full Day session is the same as Grades 1 through 4 8:55am –3:25pm*44 minute special* 20 minute recess# and a 30 minute lunch #
