Life, liberty, and property

A strong government must never be in the hands of one person—there must be a

separation of powers.

I wrote most of the US Constitution.

To live together in a civilized society, we must give up some

rights and live according to the rule

of law to maintain order.

To me is was “common sense” to separate from the

British

Establishment of the three branches of our

government.

Article 1, Section 8 contains the ______

powers

I’m the clause that is really “stretchy” so

that Congress can do what they need to do

to carry out the enumerated powers.

I was not in the original Constitution,

but am what most people think about

when they ponder the document.

I am full faith and credit—I help the

states get along—I can be found here.

There are 435 of us.

We represent entire states, not just people within a

district.

When a bill gets approved by both houses, but is not

identical, I go to this group for negotiation.

In the Senate, we have this principle as

part of our power over the President.

After the census, the House seats are

reapportioned. The state legislatures must do this to

ensure “one person, one vote.”

Although I am elected for a four-year term, I

can serve a maximum of this

many years.

When I do not like a bill that Congress

passes, I will do this to it.

If I get charged with high crimes and

misdemeanors, I may have to go through

this process.

It’s the law that allows me to send troops anywhere in the world without

declaring war.

It’s my way of making law without having to

deal with all that messy Congress stuff.

The person in this office appoints me so

I can serve on the Supreme Court.

This concept was first articulated (stated) in Marbury v Madison in

1803

My appointment to be a federal judge lasts for this long.

Judicial review is an example of ___ and

___ over the legislative branch.

Our decisions create this idea—that our

conclusions become law for everyone and

are the basis for future legal decisions.
