This is a multi-purpose music and arts space comprising two main
auditoriums, rehearsal rooms and recording studios for the Porto
National Opera with a very irregular in shape exterior resembling a
gem on a flat surface. The building promotes an interesting
relationship between interior and exterior: several glazed surfaces
allow views from and to the inside of the building. The main
concert hall located at the core of the building has outstanding
acoustic and is bathed in daylight from the two walls made entirely
of glass, an oddity in the music world as glass scatters sound in
random directions. This problem was solved by making the glass
ripple in tightly curved folds, and setting two glass sheets a metre
apart to insulate the hall from exterior noise.

church was inaugurated in 1330 but one year later, in 1331, the
Mondego river waters flooded the Monastery site, initiating the
progressive sinking of the buildings into the muddy soil. Today, if
the church ceiling seems to be too low and the height to length ratio
unbalanced, it is because, half the height stands below the floor
plan, flooded in the swamp.
