PRINCIPAL’S COMMENTS
17th April 2015 ISSUE 5
Don’t forget our SunSmart Policy. Hats to be worn during
Terms 1 and 4.
I hope everyone has had a restful
holiday break and are ready for a
busy term , as now the students
are well settled and ready to work
hard. The students in Grades 3
and 5 have the NAPLAN tests
later in May and teachers will be
preparing the students for these
activities. You can support your
child’s efforts by making sure
they continue to read for up to 20
minutes each night. Follow up
the reading with a few
appropriate questions to ensure
your child is understanding the
books / articles they may be
reading. In Maths, you can help
them by revising concepts like
“telling the time,” “reading
calendars,” and learning the
times tables.
Today the ANZAC Remembrance
Garden was officially opened by
the Federal Minister of Veteran
Affairs, the Honourable Michael
Ronaldson. Quite a few parents
were able to attend . The school
Captains were responsible for
meeting the Minister and making
a thank you speech also. The
students did an outstanding job
again and we were very proud of
the way they conducted
themselves. The students
performed “Lest We Forget”
really well and the choir led the
students in singing the National
Anthem.
Minister Ronaldson is unable to
attend our ANZAC Service next
week, as he will be in Turkey,
commemorating the 100th
Anniversary of the landing of
Australia troops at ANZAC Cove,
Gallipoli.
Wednesday the 22nd – WW2
Army Veteran, Allan Godfrey will
visit the school and talk to the
senior students about WW2. Mr.
Godfrey is 92 years old and a
spritely young man who will
answer questions from students
about what it was like to be in the
war. It certainly wasn’t fun!
Thursday the 23rd – The
students in Grades 3 to 6 will
visit the Shrine of Remembrance
in Melbourne to take part in the
Victorian Schools ANZAC
ceremony. There, they will see
and feel, firsthand, the sense of
importance that ANZAC Day
holds for all and why it is such an
important day in our history.

This is a BIG reminder for parents / carers /
family friends /relatives to come along to our
ANZAC Day commemorative service next Friday at
9:30 am.
It will be the first time we will be able to use our
ANZAC Remembrance Garden as the special place
to hold our services. The Garden has been
completed and we are extremely proud of how it
has come up. No other school has built such a
beautiful tribute to remember the spirit of the
ANZACs.
Although ANZAC Day is primarily significant to
Australian war history, it also reaches across
borders and countries and allows and, in fact,
encourages other nationalities to spend a minute
or two and think about the sacrifices that have
been made in the name of bringing peace to the
world.
At Movelle, our ANZAC service, is about
honouring PEACE not war. Therefore, I urge
people to come along and I encourage adults and
children to wear ANZAC badges, medals or
symbols of peace from all over the world and join
us when we are silent for a minute and hope for
world peace and remember those who made the
ultimate sacrifice.
Lest We Forget. We have a few guests from neighbouring schools
and businesses, and three RSL groups will be
represented and will lay a wreath at the base of the
flagpole. Any parent wishing to do the same is very
welcome to. Please see Bill Hunt for details.
ANZAC badges ($2)
available from the school office.
