Professional Development Plan

2008

Milton Wheeler, B.A., M.A., Ph.D.

Professor of History

I. Personal/Professional Mission Statement

To personify the mission of William Carey University in grooming

students to reach their highest potential in scholarship, leadership, and service.

II. Goals for 2008

A. Teaching

To improve the performance of my students based upon realistic

expectations of their potential. We began this study last year based on the 2007

results, comparing students’ grades with ACT, GPA, and attendance records. Our

study was on a limited basis.

B. Scholarship

To increase the number of chapters in the Mississippi Province, of which I

am Governor, of Pi Gamma Mu, international honorary fraternity of the social

sciences.

To add another Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar for William Carey.

To improve my own understanding in the broadly-based discipline of

history.

To help administer the enrollment of William Carey students in our

Seville Center.

C. Service to the University

To encourage the development of leadership and service in the two

fraternities on campus.

To encourage sportsmanship in intramural competition.

To strengthen our library holdings. I manage a book-purchasing fund

given by one of my friends.

To offer an opportunity for international travel to our students.

To encourage young ladies in Miss America scholarship competition. I am

an adviser to participants on their “current events” section of their interviews.

To continue to make financial contributions to the university.

D. Service to the Community

To continue teaching the “Leaders Class” at First Baptist Church,

Hattiesburg.

To continue teaching “Living Water,” a local television program

appearing weekly on channel six for 31 years.

To continue as Vice President of Kindness International, an incorporated

group that is sending one million Bibles to Russia and the Ukraine.

To serve as Governor of Louisiana-Mississippi Rotary District 6840 until

June 30, 2008.

To accelerate the growth of the pre-law program, an intense recruitment

will be organized.

E. Christian Commitment

To surrender my time, talent, and fortune to the Kingdom of our Lord.
