CONDITIONS OF PLAY - GENERAL
Players should read the Notice Board before starting as they are deemed to be aware of all local rules. They should also check their handicaps before starting.
Each competitor’s name must be entered on the Competition Sheet and the fees paid before starting.
The competition listed in the fixture book has priority over all other competitions, unless otherwise ruled by the Match Committee.
In all matchplay events, play shall be on the day set down in the fixture book.
The onus is on competitors to see that their score card is correctly marked, shows the correct handicap and is signed, countersigned and agreed before entering scores into the computer system. Members must bundy off scorecards and hand the completed cards into the golf shop immediately upon completion of their round. Failure to comply renders the player liable to disqualification (See Rule 6-6b).
The Competitor is responsible for a legible recording of his/her finishing time for the event.
Competitors shall not, without the permission of the Match Committee or Starter, commence play other than at the first tee.
In all events extending over more than one day, handicaps will remain unaltered for that competition. (Ladies - unless conditions state otherwise.)
The nature of a competition set down for any date may be altered by the Match Committee without notice, however where possible due notice shall be given.
13
Members are requested to book starting times and to adhere to those times. Failure to advise of a competition cancellation more than one (1) hour before scheduled tee off, failure to appear for scheduled tee off or failure to report to the starter 8 minutes prior to scheduled tee off may each incur a penalty - a $20 fine.
Starting sheets will be available for bookings one week prior to a competition. Internet bookings may be made after 6.15am for Weekdays and Sundays.
Bookings for Saturday’s timesheets may be made via the Members draw held each Friday evening (8 days prior) from 6pm. Internet bookings for Saturday timesheets are available from 8pm following the Members draw. Thursday Ladies starting sheets available 2 weeks prior to competition.
Phone bookings will only be accepted after 1.00pm seven days in advance.
MOBILE PHONES
are permitted in the Clubhouse, they may be carried, turned to silent, on the Course. They may only be used for outward emergency calls. If a phone rings during a round the competitor may be penalised two strokes (stroke play) or loss of hole (matchplay).
SEVERE WEATHER / LIGHTNING
1. A player may discontinue play if he believes there is danger of lightning. Bad weather is not of itself a good reason for discontinuing play (Rule 6-8)
14
2. An Assessor, who will be the Club Professional or his/her employee, shall decide whether to suspend/cancel play due to severe weather. Where the Club Professional or Club Professional’s employee determines that they are unable at that time to fulfil their Assessor obligations, the Club Professional or his/her employee may delegate this responsibility to a Club Match Committee Member or an employee of the Club.
3. If the Assessor suspends play on the course, the Assessor will sound one (1) prolonged note of siren from the clubhouse and, where necessary, but not by putting themselves in danger, will cruise the course and tell members/guests/social players to cease play and seek shelter.
4. The player on hearing the siren is required to discontinue play, mark their ball and immediately seek shelter. Players must comply with this condition of play. Failure to carry out the prescribed action on hearing the siren will result in disqualification. (The Rules of Golf – Suspension of Play Due to a Dangerous Situation applies – Appendix 1, Part C, point 4. Additionally Rule 6-8 and Rule 33-2d apply)
5. Shelter means an enclosed building i.e. the course maintenance shed, on course toilets and the clubhouse. If you cannot achieve a sheltered position you are advised to avoid touching anything that may conduct electricity. No umbrellas, no clubs in hand. Stay away from plumbing or electrical wiring. Keep away from any tree line and do not seek shelter near water, ponds or dams. Golf carts will not protect players from a lightning strike.
6. No member/guest/social player or employee will be allowed access to the course after the siren has sounded.
7. Play will resume following two (2) short notes of siren, repeated.
15

STARTING TIMES:
GENERAL COMPETITIONS
As Per Starting Sheet.
PENNANT MATCHES
Member’s starting times may be restricted when Bayview is the Host Club for various representative teams.
PACE OF PLAY POLICY
- The first groups out in the morning are expected to set the pace of play of 4hrs or under.
- All groups are expected to finish within 12 mins of the group in front.
18
STABLEFORD & PAR ROUNDS
- A two shot penalty may be incurred if you finish more than 12 mins behind the group in front. A further 2 mins grace may be granted at the discretion of the Match Committee.
- Your group may be disqualified if your group finishes more than 18 mins behind the group in front. A further 2 mins grace may be granted at the discretion of the Match Committee.
- The above mentioned penalties will not be imposed on any group completing their round in 4hr 10 mins (in a par / stableford round) or 4hr 20 mins (in a stroke round).
STROKE ROUNDS
- A warning may be issued if you finish 12 or 13 minutes behind the group in front.
- Your group may be penalized 1 shot if you finish 14–17 minutes behind the group in front.
- Your group may be penalized 2 shots if you finish 18–21 minutes behind the group in front.
- Your group may be disqualified if you finish 22 minutes or more behind the group in front.
- Any player seen leaving the final green to bundy off in any competition prior to the last player in their group putting out will be disqualified & referred to the Match Committee for possible further penalty.
19
GROUP CAPTAIN
A group captain will be selected for each group within a club competition. The Golf Shop Staff will advise which player is the group captain and this will be rotated around each week. The group captain is responsible for maintaining the group’s position in the field (that is directly behind the group in front, not a hole behind). The group captain is asked to note the hit off time of the first player at your starting hole on his scorecard.
Suggestions to avoid the problem of Slow play - play “ready golf”. Play when safe and ready on tees and fairways. Waiting for the player with the honour is not necessary.
Mark your card between tee shots at the next tee.
If a ball looks lost or out of bounds – play a provisional.
Leave buggy in a convenient spot to make your way to the next tee rather than back tracking.
Be ready to hit off at your allocated time. Reduce unnecessary practice swings - this will also reduce damage to tee boxes
After all players have teed off, walk in a safe manner directly or adjacent to your ball.
Select your club and visualise your next shot while others are hitting.
A player on losing his/her ball must immediately call through the following players if it is apparent he/she will hold up play.
When on the putting green, whenever possible putt out. Unnecessary marking of balls adds to slow play. Take the flag out of the hole and lay it on the edge of the green to avoid unnecessary passing of the flag between players.
If you are not the first group to hit off and you have a clear fairway in front of you - you are too slow.
20
All players must, on completion of their round, utilise the time clock to notarise the scorecard of the finishing time. Any card that is not notarised will be considered to be incomplete and the players on that card may be disqualified.
When the course is being marshalled the Marshall is authorised by the Match Committee to issue instructions to players whose speed of play is affecting the following players. The types of instructions and reporting responsibilities of the Marshall are set out in the Club’s Slow Play Policy a copy of which can be obtained from the General Manager.
COMPETITION FEES
Fees for all events will be prescribed by the committee and advertised in the Pro Shop.
PRACTICE RULE
Practice may only occur from within designated practice areas, these include;
- 1st hole practice tee below putting green and the spare green may be used outside of competition times with the use of a marked yellow ball.
- Practice bunker and chipping facility at rear of 11th green.
- Practice nets.
- When playing a practice round on the course, members are permitted to play two (2) balls ONLY. Members are reminded to repair their divots and pitch marks.
OPEN EVENTS
Members of other affiliated golf clubs are eligible to play subject to the payment of a visitor’s fee.
21
INVITATION EVENTS
The Club runs a number of invitation days throughout the year. It also will issue 3, 5 and 7 day members and Junior Level 2 Members with 2 invitation passes which can be used by the member within the conditions prescribed by the committee. CONDITIONS OF PLAY - OTHER EVENTS
AMBROSE
This event can be played as a 2, 3, or 4 ball event. All players hit off from the tee and a decision is then taken which ball is to be played next. The selected ball remains in play and cannot be moved prior to it being played. The other team members then drop their ball within a club length of the selected ball, no nearer the hole. They make their next stroke from this position, no matter where their previous stroke finished.
A similar decision is made after this stroke and play continues in this way. If the selected ball is in the rough or hazard, the other balls must be dropped in the rough or hazard. On the putting green the other balls are placed within one putter head of the spot where the selected ball lies, no nearer the hole.
An Ambrose is scored as a stroke event and handicapping is as follows
2B event 1/4 of aggregate stroke handicap 3B event 1/6 of aggregate stroke handicap 4B event 1/8 of aggregate stroke handicap
Mixed / Medley Ambrose
Men and ladies to play from their respective tees with the exception that ladies will play from forward tees on the 1st, 2nd and 10th holes in a medley event.
35
DROPOUT AMBROSE
This event can be played as a 3 or 4 ball event. All players hit off from the tee and a decision is then taken which ball is to be played next. The other team members then drop their ball within a club length of the selected ball, no nearer the hole. The player whose ball is selected drops out, picks up his ball and does not play this shot. All other conditions and handicap arrangements are the same as for all ambrose events and are set out above.
FOURSOMES
This is a stroke event, played with a partner and using only one ball. Partners must hit off from alternate tees, and play alternate shots within each hole. The handicap of the team will be 1/2 of the aggregate handicap of the members of the team. Men and ladies to play from their respective tees with the exception that ladies will play from forward tees on the 1st, 2nd and 10th holes in a medley event.
PINEHURST (AMERICAN FOURSOMES)
This is another variation of the standard foursomes. Both partners hit off each tee and then play a second shot with their partner’s ball. A selection is then taken which ball will be played. Whichever ball is selected the next stroke is played by the partner whose ball is selected. The handicap of the team will be 3/8 of the aggregate handicap of the members of the team. Men and ladies to play from their respective tees with the exception that ladies will play from forward tees on the 1st, 2nd and 10th holes in a medley event.
36
IRISH FOURBALL
This is played as a teams’ stableford event. The scoring is as follows:

If only 3 in the team the lowest marker is counted twice.
TEAMS 666
Two scores count for the first 6 holes, 3 the next 6 holes and all 4 for the last 6 holes. If only 3 in the team the lowest marker is counted twice.
