Push for life!

A man was sleeping at night in hiscabin when suddenly his room filledwith light, and God appeared.

The Lord told the man he had workfor him to do, and showed him alarge rock in front of his cabin.

The Lord explainedthat the man wasto push against therock with all hismight. So, this theman did, day afterday.

For many years he toiled fromsun up to sun down, hisshoulders set squarelyagainst the cold, massivesurface of the unmoving rock, pushing with all of his might. Each night the man returnedto his cabin sore and wornout, feeling that his whole dayhad been spent in vain.

Since the man wasshowing discouragement, the Adversary (Satan)decided to enter thepicture by placingthoughts into the wearymind:

"You have been pushingagainst that rock for along time, and it hasn'tmoved."

Thus, he gave theman the impressionthat the task wasimpossible and thathe was a failure.

These thoughtsdiscouraged anddisheartened theman.

Satan said, "Why killyourself over this?Just put in yourtime, giving justthe minimum effort;and that will be

goodenough."

That's what the weary man planned todo, but decided to make it a matter ofprayer and to take his troubledthoughts to the Lord.

"Lord," he said, “I have laboured longand hard in your service, putting all my

strength to do that which you have asked.Yet, after all this time, I have not evenbudged that rock by half a millimetre. What is wrong? Why am I failing?”

The Lord respondedcompassionately,

"My friend, when Iasked you to serveMe and you accepted,I told you thatyour task was to pushagainst the rockwith all of yourstrength, which youhave done.”

“Never once did Imention to you thatI expected you tomove it. Your taskwas to push. Andnow you come toMe with yourstrength spent, thinking that youhave failed. But, isthat really so?”

Through opposition youhave grown much, andyour abilities nowsurpass that which youused to have .”

“Look at yourself. Your arms are strongAnd muscled, your back sinewy andbrown; your hands are callused fromconstant pressure, your legs havebecome massive and hard.

Now I, my friend, will move the rock.”

“True, you haven'tmoved the rock. But your calling wasto be obedient andto push and toexercise your faithand trust in Mywisdom. That youhave done.

At times, when we hear a word fromGod, we tend to use our ownintellect to decipher what He wants, when usually what God wants is justa simple obedienceand faith in Him.

By all means, exercise the faith that

moves mountains, but knowthat it is still God who movesmountains.
