Description:3 different and distinct logos for a company.
Date:November 2, 2014
Instructor/Course:Emily Kunz/Communications 130 Section 11
Program(s)/Tools:Abobe Illustrator
Objectives:Create three completely different, original logos to fit a company or personal image that will appeal
to the audience.
Process:Using only Adobe Illustrator, I created 3 logos for an organic bread company. I researched vector
images of wheat on the Internet, as well as other logos. I found some images that I really liked and
saved those to a pinterest board to use for inspiration. Then I sent to work using the pen tool in
Illustrator to draw my wheat. For the first logos wheat I used a brush and created a very organicshape to my wheat. For the second logos wheat I used two tones of color to add depth to the wheat.
For the third logos wheat, I created a simple shape to represent the wheat. I started with 7 wheat
berries but changed it to 5, and I think that looks much better. I selected fonts that compliment
each image.

Description:A two sided, full color, folding brochure
Date:December 7, 2014
Instructor/Course:Emily Kunz/Communications 130 Section 11
Program(s)/Tools:Abobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop
Objectives:Set up and align a two-sided, folded document. Create an original, new logo and use it in a brochure.
Incorporate quality images. Incorporate at least four quality images, not including the logo. One
should be clipped in Photoshop and text-wrapped in InDesign so the text follows the cutout shape
of the image. Write at least 250 words of original copy in at least three paragraphs, headers, and
subheaders. Trim for a full bleed and print in duplex (two-sided) color.
Process:I created a trifold/accordian fold brochure. I created a custom dye cut for this brochure that createssome cascading triangle images so that when the brochure is folded, the viewer can see part of the
front, back and inside of the brochure. After initial research and sketches, I created a simple, clean,
but cohesive logo in Illustrator. I then imported my logo into InDesign and designed the rest of my
brochure. Out of the four images I chose, I clipped the picture of the ferris wheel, and the pictures of
the blueberries in photoshop and used a text wrap around the ferris wheel in Indesign.

Description:A web page designed to showcase HMTL and Javascript skills linking an HTML file and a Cascading
Style sheet. Page highlights a logo I have designed.
Date:December 7, 2014
Instructor/Course:Emily Kunz/Communications 130 Section 11
Program(s)/Tools:Adobe Illustrator, Notepad++, HTML, CSS
Objectives:Size and optimize an original logo as a .png for a web page so the long side is 300 500 pixels.
Acquire a working knowledge of HTML. Acquire a working knowledge of CSS. (Customize the
provided CSS provided to format the HTML to complement the logo design. Change at least the
following: The h1 text color & background color, font colors for the paragraphs & list items, the
background color, font families and add at least one css comment.) Identify hex colors to match logo,
using Photoshop color picker. Open the HTML page in a web browser and capture a quality screen
shot with .5 inch margins for printing.
Process:After completing tutorials at codecademy.com, I created a web page writing code in HTML and
linking my HTML page to a cascading style sheet where I wrote code in javascript. I then validated
my code at w3schools.com. After I marked up all my content and inserted my image, I attached a
pre-made CSS document to my HTML. I then used the colors from my logo as the colors for my
web page. I found these colors by opening Photoshop and using the eyedropper tool. I used the colors
from my logo in the header and background color for the site.

Photo MontageDescription:This is a photo montage I created using a quote from Mother Theresa. Ive admired her work and
philosophies for sometime.
Date:October 26, 2014
Instructor/Course:Emily Kunz/Communications 130 Section 11
Program(s)/Tools:Abobe Photoshop
Objectives:Learn to blend two or more images together gradually, using masks. Demonstrate more advanced
Photoshop skills for layout with multiple elements. Use a mask to apply a filter to one part of the
image. Apply typography principles (titles, quotes, events or scripturesyour choice). Format type:
Legibility; Small copy & Title with varying text size. Theme word(s). Select good quality images.
Process:I ended up getting all my images from morguefile.com. Unfortunately, I didnt save the link to thepage I downloaded the files from. I will have to remember to do that in the future. I placed the photo
of the woman and child in the corner and juxtaposed the brick road against the cityscape. I used a
quick mask and blurred the edges of the photo. I also applied a mask to the other two photos the way
we learned in this weeks activity tutorial video. I have the title words spread around the page, but I
was told from two people that I should group them. I moved the title words together and darkened
the images behind the words by painting with a black brush so the words pop. I tried some different
effects on the text, but I really like the way the white text looks.

Photo DesignDescription:Demonstrate good photography and editing skills. Create a design using Photoshop. Choose and
name color scheme.
Date:October 19, 2014
Instructor/Course:Emily Kunz/Communications 130 Section 11
Program(s)/Tools:Abobe Photoshop
Objectives:Learn basic photography skills. Choose a color scheme, take a photo to match those colors, then
incorporate the colors into the layout. Use a digital camera to take a quality image, then download
it. Adjust image levels, saturation, color balance, sharpen tool on separate layers for NDE (non-
destructive editing.) Size and crop the image, then place on an 8.511 page layout. Use layers to
design text, and repeating graphic elements in Photoshop. Print with full-bleed margins. Trim only
1/8 (0.125) from all four sides.
Process:(Programs, tools, skills): I was trying to think of what picture I would like to take for this assignment,
and thought of the hanging flower basket on my front porch. The blooms have lasted this beautifully
this far into fall, and it would make the perfect complementary color scheme for a design. I had to
stretch to complete the assignment in Photoshop. Photoshop seems cumbersome to me compared
to Illustrator, but that is probably just because I dont know it as well. I wanted to try the separate
images taken from the same photo, and I think it turned out really well. This assignment helped me
implement the color wheel as well and become more aware of its uses and of color theory.

Business CardDescription:Business card for a company.
Date:November 9, 2014
Instructor/Course:Emily Kunz/Communications 130 Section 11
Program(s)/Tools:Abobe Illustrator
Objectives:Create a business card with a new logo, demonstrating good design and typography principles.
Process:After a few attempts at creating a logo for a paper company, I used the tools in Illustrator to create
a circular logo with a banner. Ive made the company name quite large, and the S logo repeats on
the letterhead and business card. My letterhead is a little unconventional, but I think it works for my
audience. I le ft the circle above the banner, instead of centering it, which adds some visual tension.
I also added some large brush strokes to add a texture to the banner and the background. The bluescomplement each other nicely.

FlyerDescription:Black and white flyer to promote a leadership conference to be held by a company on a college
campus.
Date:October 4, 2014
Instructor/Course:Emily Kunz/Communications 130 Section 11
Program(s)/Tools:Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign
Objectives:Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography. Incorporate basic InDesign skills to
improve basic flier layout. Retrieve image and logo from links on this page. Create a project folder
with image, logo and InDesign document to keep links in InDesign intact.
Process:I designed this flyer using Photoshop and InDesign. I took the background out of the photo, which
adds clarity to his image, and gives him and the flyer a professional look. I made him very large, sohe is the focal point of the flyer. I also made the title large which adds contrast and makes it a second
point of interest. The black in the Vouant Communications logo draws the eye as well, leading the
viewer through the message in a triangle.
