ProgramAim:PupilsneedlotsofopportunitiestoplayandexploreusingtheBee-BotsinreceptionbeforetheymoveontoKS1algorithmicactivities.Playinghelpspupilsreallyunderstandthelogicalrulesthedeviceisconstrainedby.Toolittleplayandtheywillstrugglelateron.YoucantellchildrenthattheBee-botturnswithoutmovingforwardorbackwardsbuttheywon'tfullyunderstandthatuntiltheyhaveexploreditandplayedwithitandworkeditoutbythemselves.

Step1:Unstructuredplay

Guidedplayactivitiesensurethat,pupilswithlessinclinationtoexploreplayingwiththeBee-botprogrammingdevice,getsomethingmeaningfulfromtheirinteractions.Theseshouldalwaysonlybeastartingpointandifpupilscomeupwithextensionactivities,ornewchallengestheseshouldbeencouraged.TeachersneedtorecordthefollowingactivitiesontoatalkingpostcardortalkingtinandleavethesewiththeBee-bot.Theyarenotmeantasanexclusivelistbutasastartingpointthatreceptionteacherscanusetodesigntheirownactivities.Teachersmaywishtowritetheinstructionsaswellsopupilscanchoosetoread,listenorboth.Alloftheseactivitiesaredesignedforindividualsbutcaneasilybeusedbypairsorpupilsworkingcollaboratively.Recordingandassessingcanbedonethroughdiscussionwithadultsorphotographstocapturethelearning.
