What is the OPI?

The OPI or OPIc is a telephone or computer oral

interview that holistically measures spoken language by

determining patterns of strength and weaknesses.

The tester or the computer program, by following the

standardized structure of the OPI and using practiced

elicitation techniques, checks the global tasks and

functions across contents and contexts, until the highest

level of sustained ability is demonstrated.

The ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI), is a valid

and reliable means of assessing how well a person

speaks a language.

The interview is adaptive, interactive, and speaker

oriented. That is, each interview is tailored to the

speaker’s interest and level of ability.

How can I Register for a test?

Step 1. Complete the online application available at

www.languagetesting.com/

Click the top right corner and create an account as a test candidate

How can I Register for a test? Step 2. Apply for a Test. Find your institution and Choose

Oral Proficiency Interview by Computer (OPIc) Option. Click “Apply for an ACTFL test”, search for “RIFLA”, review and accept terms, and

choose “Oral Proficiency Interview by Computer (OPIc).”

How can I Register for a test? Select and email a RIFLA test proctor to schedule your OPIc.

What happens once I send the

application?

Within five business days, LTI will contact you and/or the

proctor with details regarding the time and date window of

your test.

You must contact your proctor to set up a day and time

convenient for both of you.

The OPIc can be taken any time within a period of two weeks

to a month and must be completed before Dec. 12.
