Gallie Alley Urban Infill

Gallie Alley is a historic alley way which was a space for local artists to showcase their work and a place for gathering and socializing. lt lost its proposed purpose in the late 1960’s due to the overwhelming volume of civil rights protests in Tallahassee.Tallahassee.

The goal of this design was to sustain the needed functions of the infill building while still providing a pathway throughout the site from S. Moroe Street to the interior of Gallie Alley. The boldness of the vertical mass draws in pedestrian traffic alongalong S. Monroe, where as the second level’s horizontal screened pathway feeds pedestrians interests and pulls them into the interior promenade. The use of intersecting horizontal and vertical elements give a profound statement to the series ofof facades on S. Monroe while still respecting the surrounding buildings with similar materials and balance of elements.
