JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION: Reliability Engineer – Lube for Life
SCOPE:
This position is responsible for initiating a global oil analysis program, setting up account structures, equipment
models and network design for shipping of oil samples to a global network of laboratories. Learning all aspects
of fluid sample analysis, interpretation of results and explanation of data to internal customers. Provide single
focal point of contact for corporate wide training needs related to reliability oil analysis program. Work closely
with various Lifetime support reliability engineers and R&D engineering to develop the lube for life concept.
Ensure Sandvik Mining EH&S standards are adhered to.
Monitor the profitability of the lube analysis program
Prepare marketing, training, and user guides for internal users and customers.
Verify the machine lifecycle cost model as developed in ARMS
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Essential Functions:
Responsible for data quality and accuracy
Interprets oil analysis reports, data, analyzes results and presents recommended course of
action
Extensive communication and contact with internal and external customers and laboratories
regarding testing, customer questions, and/or feedback
Travel to Sandvik Lifetime support locations to assist reliability engineers and R&D
engineering with testing questions, result interpretations, and troubleshooting
Demonstrate and be regarded as an industry expert
Severity 3 & 4 exception reports for equipment are reviewed and necessary action items
assigned in ST Feedback data base.
Management of Outsourced Testing – ensuring samples are outsourced at appropriate time and
ensuring outsourced testing is received and entered
Work closely with product line R&D engineering and Lifetime Support Reliability Engineering
to design onboard oil analysis service. Responsible to create value pricing options for service
levels.
Work closely with OEM component providers such as Parker, Rextroth, Cummins, Volvo,
Deutz, to determine serviceability limits and failure analysis. Make recommendations to design
changes that will support the lube for life concept.
Use the results from the analysed information in conjunction with other sources (i.e.- end users,
regional contacts, engineering, etc.) to determine best practices in Sandvik’s
maintenance/repair strategies (as applied in the RCMCost model of the AWB software)
Report on reliability issues and makes recommendations for improvements.
After careful analysis make recommendations for Sandvik Mining to have a single standard
source lubrication provider for all models while in manufacturing.
Experience with or training in RCM II will be very advantageous
Qualifications and Requirements:
Ability to work in a team environment with remote supervision.
Ability to work under pressure and deadlines
Ability to travel globally as needed

Understanding of testing procedures and results
Understanding of lubrication fundamentals and metallurgy
Excellent presentation skills
Excellent communication skills in English
BS/BA in Chemical Engineering/Chemistry or Mechanical Engineering and/or 5+ years related
experience in Oil Analysis, Lubrication, Maintenance or Reliability Engineering
STLE CLS (Certified Lubrication Specialist), or SMRP CMRP (Certified Maintenance
Reliability Professional), ICML MLA (Machinery Lubricant Analyst), or equivalent
STLE OMA II (Oil Monitoring Analyst), or ICML (Machinery Lubrication Technician), or
equivalent
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
Reports to: Lifetime Support Manager
Liaises with: Work with all (8) Lifetime Support teams and reliability engineers, Customers Services
teams.
Work closely with: R&D engineering teams in production units
External contacts: Polaris Laboratories, lubrication suppliers, OEM component suppliers, customers,
SMRP - Group for Maintenance and Reliability Professionals.

Initial pilot of lube analysis program in
North America and South America Develop equipment lubrication database in Horizon
Carefully test and monitor the results of
the DR461 lube for life test equipment
and modified pump drive gear box
Develop lubrication maintenance strategies to maximize
oil life in hydraulic and gear box
Statistical analysis of relevant
equipment on Sandvik oil analysis
program to identify and report on the
critical issues relating to reliability
Quarterly meetings with R&D Engineering to highlight
and discuss results
Ongoing discussion in all NPD project meetings relating
designed reliability
