Downtown Student.
Houston Independent School District
HISD started an SAP Internship Program 5 years ago to help students have “hands on” experience using SAP.
That internship program has grown to the point that HISD is the first high school district to be accepted into the
University Alliance. HISD is currently teaching an ERP / SAP class to 10 th graders at Sam Houston Math,
Science and Technology Center High School.

Business Challenges and Objectives
How do High School students learn about SAP and what it is like to work in an office environment? Most of
the students at HISD have never been exposed to an office environment. How can a student who has never
had that exposure even dream of a career in Business or Information Technology. The SAP Internship
Program was started to help HISD what opportunities working with SAP could be available to them in their
future. In 2014, HISD decided to provide a “hands on” SAP Internship program to students. In this program
the students receive SAP training and a mentor in the SAP Support area whom they will work with. Students
resolve production problems and requests with their mentors in the HISD Production System. Three students
have written ABAP programs that are used by HISD Business Partners on a daily basis. In 2019, HISD has
taken SAP learning to a new level by teaching an ERP/SAP class at one of our High Schools. HISD is the first
High School District to be a full member of the University Alliance.
• The HISD OneSource (SAP) Student Internship is a program for high school juniors and seniors that requires a semester(s) commitment and
allows students to explore their career interests, gain valuable work experience, and possibly earn credit toward their high school diploma.
• OneSource interns develop business skills, learn about hot technology topics, network with the pros, and more.
• Interns work closely with our OneSource (SAP) team.
• Project work includes requirement gathering gap analysis testing and implementation of SAP Modules.
• ABAP Program development.

Student Selection and Placement into the OneSource Student Internship
Program:
We have a team of mentors, managers/directors that review each application. In some cases,
students may be required to come in for an interview. There is a section within the application
that indicates areas of interest. Based upon their selection, we place the students
in that area.
Internship Training
All student interns receive SAP basic
training prior to working with the
