Prerequisites

PriortoinstallationofSASUniversityEdition,youshouldreviewthesystemrequirements.Instructions:NewInstall Faculty,staff,andstudentsatUVAareeligibleforSASsoftwareforteachingandresearchpurposes(T&R).Thereareseveralstepstothisinstallationprocess.Ifyouhavequestionsorneeddirections,contactusat434-243-8800orviaemailtores-consult@virginia.edu.

1. InstallVirtualBox-Note:IfyoualreadyhaveVirtualBoxinstalledonyourmachine,youneedtomakesureitisversion5.1.2.Newerversionswillnotworkforthisinstallation.a.VisitVirtualBoxOldBuilds

b.Clickonthelinknextto“OSXhosts”under“VirtualBox5.1.2”todownloadtheversionrequiredc.OpenaFinderwindowandnavigatetoyourDownloadsfolder.Doubleclickonthefilelabeled“VirtualBox-5.1.2-108956.dmg”

d.Doubleclickontheiconinthetopleftcornerofthenextscreenlabeled“VirtualBox.pkg”

e.Onthenextscreenclick“Continue”,andthenonthenextscreenclick“Install”.Oncethesoftwareissuccessfullyinstalledclick“Close”.

2.CreateaSASProfilea. VisitSASUniversityEditionWebsiteandscrolldowntothesection

labeled“3:DownloadtheSASUniversityEditionvApp”.Clickthe“GetDownload”button.

b. ClickCreateProfile,andgothroughallthestepstocreateaprofile.Waitforanemailtoarrivetotheemailaddressyouinput,andsetapasswordfortheaccount.ThenreturntothepageaccessedfromtheGetDownloadbutton.(Note:youmayhavetowait20-30minutesfortheemailtoarrivefromtheSASserver,bepatient)

3.DownloadSASa.Afteracceptingthetermsandconditions,clicktheblueDownloadbuttonfoundnexttotheproductinthereceiptonthatpage

b. Thisshouldprompttheprogramtodownloadintoyour“Downloads”folder

4.Setupvirtualmachinea.NavigateinaFinderwindowtoyourApplicationsfolderanddoubleclickontheVirtualBoxicon

b.Inthetopleftcorner,clickon“File”,andinthedropdownmenuclick“ImportAppliance”

c.Onthenextscreen,clicktheiconwiththefolderandgreencarrotnexttothefillinbar.

d.NavigatetoyourDownloadsfolder,andselectthefilenamed“unvbasicvapp_9411007_ova_en_sp0_1.ova”.Clickthe“Open”button.

e.Onthenextscreen,clickthebuttonthatsays“Continue”,thenclickthe“Import”buttonf.Oncethevirtualmachineiscreated,clickonitintheleftbar,andthenclickthe“Start”button.

Every-useSetupTheseinstructionsmustbefollowedeverytimeyouwishtouseSASUniversityEditiona. OpenVirtualBox,clickonthemachinelabeled“SASUniversityEdition”,

andclickthe“Start”button.Oncetheprogramhasstarted,awindowshouldappearwithablackscreenandwhitetext.(Note:ThiswindowmustremainopenuntilyouaredonewithyoursessionwithSAS.Closingthiswindowwillcauseissueswiththeprogram)

b. Openabrowser(i.e.Safari,Chrome,Firefox,etc.),andtypeintotheurltheaddressfoundontheblackscreen(highlightedherebyaredarrow).PresstheReturnkey.(Note,thisaddresscan’tbecopiedandpasted,ifyouclickintheblackwindowyouwilllosecontrolofyourmouse,inwhichcaseyoumustpressCtrl+Commandtogetyourmouseback

c. Click“StartSASStudio”

d. Whendoneusingtheprogram,closethebrowser,theblackvirtualmachine

window,andanyotheropenwindows.Whenclosingtheblackvirtualmachinewindow,usethe“PowerMachineOff”option.
