Dear Parents, Reminder: Before and After School Care – Expression of Interest We seem to have an increasing number of stu-dents who are arriving at school well before 8:45am and are not being picked up from school until after 3:30. For this reason I have asked Camp Australia to survey our families to find out if it is viable for us to operate a Before and After School Program. Attached to the newsletter is further information. Basically we need you to complete an online sur-vey at www.research.net/s/stalbanseast Please see the office staff if you do not have ac-cess to the internet but would like to complete the survey. Primary Music Institute (PMI) – School Band Are you interested in your child joining the St Albans East Primary School Band? The school has approached PMI who currently offer keyboard lessons at our school with the view of establishing a school band. PMI will be here in week 5 to run demonstration lessons for students in years 2-6. Expression of Interest forms will be distributed to students after the demonstration les-sons. Parents are encouraged to attend to view the program for themselves. We will send a note about this closer to the day. Attached to the newsletter is a flier outlining the details. Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) Dear Parent The following information has been provided to me by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development. Yours sincerely Wally Gatt School Council President
From The Principal
Newsletter No. 18
7 November, 2014
Changes to the Education Maintenance Al-lowance From 1 January 2015, the government will pro-vide extra financial support directly to Victoria’s neediest schools instead of providing the Educa-tion Maintenance Allowance directly to parents. Parents will not be able to apply for the Educa-tion Maintenance Allowance in 2015. The money will be allocated to eligible schools through schools’ core operational funding mech-anism, with the neediest schools receiving the most funding. Not all schools will be receiving funding in 2015. This change to how the money is distributed was required by the funding agreement with the Com-monwealth government to make sure Victorian schools receive increased funding that will bene-fit all students and, in particular, those from schools with concentrated disadvantage. The majority of parents who received the EMA payment already elected to provide the money directly to their school. If you are experiencing financial hardship, you can speak to your principal about how you can access assistance from the State Schools’ Relief Committee for clothing and uniforms. The end of the EMA direct payments to parents
will not affect any other payment you may be receiving such as the Schoolkids Bonus, which is provided directly to eligible parents to assist with education costs. If you have any questions about this change, please speak to your school principal. 2015 Prep Enrolments Have you got a child turning 5 before April 30 next year? If so they are due to be enrolled at school. Please contact the office to collect an enrolment pack. The school will be conducting an orientation pro-
gram in November so it is important that your child is enrolled to be included as part of this program.

Working Bee
THANK-YOU!! A big thank you to all the students and their fami-
lies who worked so hard at the Working Bee on
Saturday 25th October. It is always wonderful to
see families working side by side to make St Al-
bans East Primary School a clean and safe place.
As always there was gardening, sweeping and
cleaning to do. We were lucky that the rain held off
until the last 15 minutes when we stopped for a
sausage and drink.
Parent Morning Tea
– Parent Opinion
Survey!! On Tuesday 18th November the school will be
holding a parent morning tea in the staffroom from
9:10am, the morning tea should go no longer than
an hour. The aim of this morning tea will be to ex-
plore the data that the school has received from the
Parent Opinion Survey, there were 65 surveys
handed out but only 13 were completed. The infor-
mation collected from such surveys is important in
directing the planning of the school into the future.
If you have a spare hour please come and attend
and share your opinions and ideas so the school
can use this information to plan for the future.
