Microscopes

Light Microscope – light passes through one or more lenses to produce an enlarged image of a specimen.

Light Microscope

Use two lenses

A light bulb in the base shines light up through the specimen mounted on a glass slide. The objective lens then collects the light, which then travels to the eye.

Microscopes

Electron Microscope – forms an image of a specimen using a beam of electrons rather than light.

Can magnify up to 200,000x

Living things can’t be seen under an Electron microscope because the specimens have to be looked at while in a vacuum.

Electron Microscope

Microscopes

Magnification – is the quality of making an image appear larger than its actual size.

Resolution – Is a measure of the clarity of an image.
