Filtration is a process of physical re-
moval of suspended matter in raw wa-
ter & re-circulating cooling water in
Power, Steel, fertilizers and Cement
industries.
Side stream filtration decreases water
usage and improves heat transfer effi-
ciency, thereby reducing operating
cost. Employing side stream filtration
results in:
Reduced fouling
Reducebiologically induced corro-
sion
Reduce scaling by limiting corro-
sion
Significant energy and water sav-
ings
Reduction in chemical use
Lower maintenance cost
Improved productivity and reduc-
tion in downtime
ADVANTAGES OF SEBAC FILTERS
Minimum Labour: The SEBAC filters are “Operator–free” as they “filter and backwash” without any human intervention.
///////.,
Minimum Maintenance: In the SEBAC filters have no valves, pumps, flow controllers switches or other instruments which require frequent maintenance. The system requires “no-power” as it a gravity filter. Uniform High Quality Effluent: As the filtered water is discharged above the filter bed, a negative head loss cannot develop. This eliminates the problems of conventional filters including channelling, mud balls, that upset beds. The net result is uniform high quality effluent water with high reduction of suspended solids (99%).
Complete Control: Backwash can be manually initiated at any time regardless of bed condition; this permits adjustment of plant sched-ules.
Saves Time, Money & Space: Easy for transportation in Containers for horizontal bed designs. With Space saving dual bed designs, larger capacities can be met and very high loads can be dealt by using sever-al units in parallel. Manufacturing at our works eliminates
uncertainities of site, thus enabling us
on-time delivery with high quality &
economical construction.

Schematic Diagram Of Side Stream Filtration
Self-Backwashing Gravity Filters
These filters are of "Self Back-washing gravity type". Instead of monitoring the turbidity of filtered water which is seldom practical, the head loss princi-ple is a better control option.
Head loss actuates a backwash siphon and draws wash water from its storage through the bed and out through the siphon pipe to waste. A low level in the back-wash storage section breaks the siphon, and the filter returns to service.
SEBAC offers efficient water man-agement solution. This self-backwashing filter technology is developed at IEC Fabchem in-house Product Development Cen-tre. The filter design has been duly validated for establishing capacity of filtration & auto-backwash ca-pability.
IEC has successfully designed, de-veloped & installed single bed and dual bed Self Back-washing auto-matic valve-less gravity filters.
Product Description
SEBAC consists of a tank divided into three functional compartments
Backwash storage space
Filter bed compartment
Collection chamber
The backwash storage space is designed to hold an adequate amount of backwash water.
The filter bed compartment nor-mally contains graded filter sand supported on a collection system of disc having strainers which pro-vide uniform collection of filtered water.
Graded filter sand or dual media is generally used as the filter media.
Dual bed filters is generally preferred for large capacity filtration require-ments wherein the filtration equip-ment occupies considerably smaller footprint than a single bed filter of same output capacity.
This innovative filtration technology has the advantage of being able to treat large flows of water without consuming energy for the filtering and backwashing operation.
The standard models are available in steel.
The Stages of the Filtration:
The raw water flows through the fil-ter media. The hydrostatic pressure increases as suspended particles are retained causing the water level in the relative chamber goes up.
When pressure drop through the fil-ter bed reaches the set level, the backwashing is run automatically. The backwashing is achieved in a very short duration (approximately in 5 minutes or less)
The backwashing water, containing the solid particles retained during the filtration process, is siphoned into a dedicated sump, which later can be transferred to the sludge dewatering unit.
Energy Saving & Cost Cutting
SEBAC automatic Valve-less Gravity Filter can be easily installed in a closed- circuit cooling water system.
Furthermore, due to the simple princi-ple, the management and the supervi-sion of the process has minimal costs.
