Khandu flags off 5th leg of Maruti Suzuki National Super League TSD Rally

ITANAGAR (AP), Dec 14:Chief Minister of ArunachalPradesh, Pema Khandu flagged offthe 5th leg of Maruti SuzukiNational Super League TSD RallyChampionship from CivilSecretariat, Itanagar in ArunachalPradesh.

This is the first ever MarutiSuzuki motorsports rally to debutin the North-east. The rally will bepassing through the oldest town ofthe State, Pasighat, also known as“Gateway of Arunachal Pradesh”and will conclude in the breath-tak-ing quaint village, Dambuk onDecember 17.

The rallyists will be coveringover 700 km distance, traversingthrough the undulating hilly terrainof Arunachal Pradesh. The rallyistsfrom all across the country areextremely excited as they would

get to experience Arunachal’sbeauty along the way.

Commenting on the occasion,Vinay Pant, Assistant VicePresident, Marketing, MarutiSuzuki India Ltd said, “Theresponse we have received for allthe stages of this championship hasbeen phenomenal and reflects the

passion people have for motor-sports. Through National SuperLeague TSD Rally Championship,we have reached out to the buddingtalent and given them a platform toshowcase their passion for themachines and also prepare them-selves for larger format rallies.”

The Rally of Arunachal willsee over 40 participants competingfor the prestigious title. The partic-ipants include winners ofBackwaters Rally and DeccanRally KarthickMaruthi and SSankar Anand. Other key partici-pants like Sachin Singh andJagmeet Gill are set to give a toughcompetition to the title holders.

This championship is anotherinitiative by Maruti Suzuki to pro-mote motorsports in India. It is acombination of six different ralliesnamely Maruti SuzukiUttarakhand Rally, Deccan Rally,Backwaters Rally, Mughal Rally,Rallyof Arunachal and GujaratRally - which will be the champi-onship finale. Participants caneither be part of the all six rallies orthey can participate in individualrallies.

The participants will experi-ence a unique blend of motor-sports and music with The OrangeFestival of Music and Adventurecoinciding with the thrilling rally.

JAMMU, Dec 14: TheAnnual Sports cum AcademicMeet, being organized byASCOMS College and Hospitalwas inaugurated with pomp andshow, here today.

The event was inaugurated byD K Batra, Joint Secretary inpresence of Dr Pavan Malhotra ,Director Principal and DrRavinder K Gupta , ViceChairman Sports and CulturalDepartment.

Various senior faculty mem-bers , residents, staff membersand students were present duringthe inauguration.

On the opening day therewere Tug of War matchesbetween staff and students inboth male and female category.Staff team won the match con-vincingly in both the categories.Itwas followed by 100 metres racefor the female teaching staff . DrNitika , Dr Deepender and DrMeeta were 1st , 2nd and 3rdrespectively.

There was a cricket matchbetween staff and studentsalso.The staff team scored 195for 7 in stipulated 20 overs.

Dr Pavan Malhotra and DrRavinder K Gupta gave a solidopening stand of 56 runs in first 4overs. Due to all round display of

Dr Amit Suri the staff team wonthe match with a huge margin of104 runs. Dr Ravinder and DrAmit took 2 wickets each andgrabbed 2 catches each.

During the 4 day Meet, a lotof sports, cultural and academicactivities will be conducted forstaff and students.

The Freshers day will be heldon December 17.

RAJOURI, Dec 14: With anaim to spread the message ofcommunal harmony amongst thelocals and engage the youth inmeaningful activities, Ace ofSpades Inter District T20 CricketTournament was conducted atSports Stadium, here.

A total of eight teams withfour from Rajouri and one eachfrom Poonch, Naushera, Mendharand Krishnaghati participated inthe Tournament.

The final match of the tourna-ment was played between RisingPeer Panjal and Poonch Royals inwhich Poonch Royals emerged aswinners in a keenly contestedmatch.

The final was witnessed byCivil and Army dignitaries withlocals and school children cheer-ing the teams with full zeal.

The chief guest appreciatedthe participating teams for theirsportsman spirit and thanked thelocals for their whole hearted par-ticipation and response to thetournament. Sunil Kumar ofPoonch Royals was declared asman of the match and IftikarBhatti of Poonch Royals wasadjudged as the man of the series.

With around 150 youthinvolved as part of various teams,the T20 Cricket Tournament cre-ated a lot of enthusiasm amongthe Youth of the town and thelocal population of Rajouri.

JAMMU, Dec 14: Semifinalslineup has been drawn in 65th AllIndia Police HockeyChampionship, being played atKK Hakhu Astroturf HockeyStadium, here.

Defeating their rivals convinc-ingly, ITBP, Punjab, CRPF andBSF have entered the last fourstages and will be meeting eachother tomorrow for sealing berthin the finals.

Earlier, in the first quarterfi-nals, ITBP defeated Odisha byfour goals to two (4-2). For ITBP,the first goal was scored by MCMeetai in 14th minute, which wasfollowed by the second goal nettedby Harwinder Singh in 27thminute. However, Sudhir Batraand Umesh Kishan of Odishascored goals in 29th and 38th min-utes to equalize the score. ITBPplayers came back strongly to

score two back to back goals in44th and 66th minutes throughHarwinder Singh and JaswinderSingh, to finally win the match by(4-2).

Dilbar Sandhu and MalkiatSingh were the umpires, JoginderSingh and VP Sharma were thejudges, while Gurmeet Singh wasthe technical officer.

In the second quarterfinal,Punjab blanked Tamil Nadu by sixgoals to nil (6-0). For Punjab,Satwinder Singh scored the firstgoal in 4th minute of the match.Then after a gap of 18 minutes,Punjab managed to score threeback to back goals in 22nd, 27thand 29th minutes through GurbajSingh, Amit Sandhu and AjayKumar respectively to make it 4-0in their favour in the first half.Jagmeet Singh scored two goals inthe second half in 54th and 70thminutes to help his team win by(6-0).

In the third quarterfinal match,CRPF got better of hosts Jammuand Kashmir by four goals to one(4-1). The lone goalfrom J&K was scored by JasreetSingh in 67th minute.

In the last quarterfinal match,BSF thrashed Karnataka by five

goals to nil (5-0). The first goalwas scored by Gudjit Singh in16th minute, which was followedby second in 17th minute netted byMandeep Singh. The third and 4thgoals were scored by HatinderSingh in 40th and 45th minutes,while the fifth goal was netted byLakhvir Singh in 67th minute.

DGP declares South KashmirSports Festival open

ANANTNAG, Dec 14: TheDirector General Jammu andKashmir Police (DGP), K.Rajendra Kumar, today inaugurat-ed South Kashmir Sports Festival2016 at Government Boys DegreeCollege, Khanabal here.

On the occasion, DGP tooksalute at the March Past by theteams of different sports and vari-ous cultural items were also pre-sented by the students and artistswhich were highly applauded bythe audience.

Speaking on the occasion,DGP said that the main purposebehind organizing such eventswas to bridge the gap betweenpolice and public. He said thatpolice has already organizedmany such programmes andcontinue to strive for the same infuture as well.
