Shape & FormAs you look around, you see countless shapes and forms. What is the difference between a shape and a form?

What is a shape?

Shape is made by connecting lines

The flat outline of an object

A 2-Dimensional outline of an object

What is a form?

Form encloses spaceSomething that has length,

width and depthForm is 3 dimensional

Three basic types of forms

RECTILINEAR ANGULAR CURVED

Rectilinear formsThe most commonly used form in our

homes. These forms fit together well and help conserve

spaceThis form feels stable and secure because of its

90 degree anglesThis form establishes unity and rhythm when

repeatedThere is a danger of this form feeling harsh or

monotonous. However, when placed on a diagonal, it becomes a dynamic element.
