What is the reality?

Realisations and Risk

What makes it work...

The core ingredients System Side

• Common Network Storage• EMu Webservice, communicate• Server portal to retrieve and access

User Side• EMu (MMR) • DAMS (MV Images in this case)

Important Extras

• Workflows – preservation/digitisation/events• Process• Procedures• Scripts• Scripts• Users

Workflows and Resource Types• Workflows analysis

-Preservation-Photography-Collection Photography

• Resource Types- MV Resource (Shared)- MV State Collection (Shared Digital Origin)- External Resource (not generally Shared)

• Workflows underpin the system connections- Job tracking- data collection- projects

• Sharing underpins internal use in all regards

Process & Procedures around Sharing

• Written Process and Procedures - for Admin, production staff and User- communicated- accessible- specific support to related staff

• Unwritten Process and Procedure- if keeping them write them in

• Training of relevant Staff- resourcing this can be an issue

• Induction or training into other systems as necessary- existing integrated job tracking system- workflow procedures- project processes (who what when how)

“There should be a place where only the things you want to happen, happen” ― Maurice Sendak, Where the Wild Things Are

Tell‘em They’re Dream’in

Scripts - where applied

F.I.A.T

• Bugs can creep in and need managingbut not necessarily what is meant here as...Mainly

• You may discover other uses• Unaddressed requirements• Unexpected consequences

What the Users Really Think

• April 2011 - Survey of Users of MV Images (inc. EMu Users)

- frustration in how the systems integrate.- 17% wanted more integration with EMu to

“improve” their use of the systems. • August 2011- Workshop held with a subset of Users

revealed that the Shared function was seen as “working” but with process problems

• The “right” data was missing and there was some confusion about peripheral matters.

Are we There yet? The journey is the reward – Chinese proverb

The sharing journey has: • Taught us much about what we do• The current solution fits the systems we do

have though not all user/use expectations• We know better now what to do for potential

future integration

Future Thinking

Develop the integration further?

Potentially.

For review over the next financial year.
