The inspiration of Shores was in response to the need for non-combustible materials after two catastrophic cruise ship fires caused many casualties.

The United Nations International Maritime Organization (IMO) made new rules for indoor and outdoor applications.

The demands were high on designers, manufacturers and shipping companies.

Shores was the first company to make outdoor furniture for cruise ships after the new IMO requirements.
