Shottermill and Haslemere FC was established in 2001 when Shottermill FC and
Haslemere FC merged. The Club is affiliated to the Surrey Football Association and
both the 1st X1 and 2nd X1 plays its football in the Surrey Intermediate League
Western Premier Division and Reserve Division. Surrey FA records show that the
earliest Haslemere recording is 1893 and Shottermill’s 1911. The Clubs, it would
appear, have merged a number of times over the years however information is a rather
vague. In 1936-37 Haslemere, playing in red and Shottermill playing in blue merged to
form Haslemere and Shottermill FC, playing in the new colours of red and blue. There
is a mention of Haslemere Juniors in 1935-36, Haslemere Athletic 1950-51 and
Shottermill FC 1950-51 regretfully no further information appears to be available.
Andy Brine, the Club Chairman, would be keen to hear from anyone who has any relevant
information regarding the Club’s history.
The Club forms part of the Woolmer Hill Sports Association along with Haslemere
Community Rugby Club and Haslemere Hockey Club. All of the Clubs home games are
played at Woolmer Hill recreation ground on Saturdays. Training is on the grass
during the summer months moving onto the floodlit, Football Foundation Astro pitch
at The Edge from September through to the end on March.
This season our first team has been managed by Tim Howard who took over from Paul
Sturt, who after 3 years felt it was time to stand down. Tim, a former Shottermill &
Haslemere player comes in after a successful few seasons playing for neighbours
Liphook United. This is his first attempt a managing an adult side and he has relished the
challenge this season. Although Mill struggled early on in the year Tim and his players
feel confident that next season they could and should be challenging for things at the
other end of the league and there is a real sense of ambition and a great buzz about the
club. Stuart Balfour also takes charge of his first attempt at managing an adult side by
taking over from Andy Burdett has looked after our reserve team brilliantly this year,
doing an extremely difficult job, sometimes with little thanks.
For the first time in many years the club feel that there are enough players to warrant
starting a third team again. With a nice influx of under 16’s from this year looking to try
and learn their trade at adult level the club are keen for others to join and play,
whether it is for any of the three teams. For more information please visit the Shotter-
mill & Haslemere web site.
