the early fall? Have you ever wanted to get involved but didn’t know how?
Divot Digest is your guide to all that happens at the Justin Timberlake
Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. We want you to be involved, so
each month we will provide Tournament updates, event spotlights, and all
the information you need to become a part of Las Vegas’s premier PGA
TOUR Event. Keep watch on your e-mail inbox to learn about all the
opportunities that drive the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for
Children Open.
The Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open
Justin Timberlake has teamed up with the Shriners
Hospitals for Children to continue the tradition of an
official PGA TOUR Event in Las Vegas. PGA TOUR
Professionals from around the world travel to Las Vegas
to participate in the weeklong event that takes place in
your backyard at TPC Summerlin. With the biggest
names in golf and entertainment getting involved, our
tournament is host to numerous community and special
events. With two pro-ams (PGA TOUR pros play with
amateur golfers), a Women’s Day, dental clinic, walk-a-
thon, and youth clinic, we are dedicated to giving back to
the Las Vegas community. What makes this PGA TOUR
event so special is its true purpose, to support the
Shriners Hospitals for Children. All proceeds from the
tournament benefit the ongoing programs of the most
innovative and giving hospitals.
Shriners Hospitals for Children
Shriners Hospitals for Children® is a health care system of 22
hospitals dedicated to improving the lives of children by providing
specialty pediatric care, innovative research and outstanding
teaching programs. Children up to the age of 18 with orthopedic
conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries and cleft lip and palate are
eligible for admission and receive all care in a family-centered
environment. Did you know that currently 500 children from
Southern Nevada are being cared for by the Shriners Hospitals
for Children? What’s more is that care is provided regardless of
the patient’s ability to pay. Help us support our local youth by
volunteering, participating in an event, or by simply walking the
course at the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children
Open!

Patient Story
Mike Babin
Ed Graney from the Las Vegas Review Journal wrote a
touching article on various Las Vegas patients of the Shriners
Hospitals for Children from which we share with you.
Copyright Las Vegas Review Journal Oct. 24, 2010
Mike Babin was just three years old and playing in his garage
when a gasoline can was knocked over and engulfed the boy in
flames. Burned on more than 85% of his body, Mike needed
immediate burn care. “They told us he wouldn’t live. They told us
he wouldn’t be able to function, that society wouldn’t accept him.
Well, we wouldn’t accept that” says Mike’s father Michael Babin.
After being discouraged by burn units near his home in Baton
Rouge, LA., they turned to Shriners Hospitals for
Children in Galveston, TX . Over the next 13 years, Shriners
Hospitals for Children provided over 30 surgeries to help Mike
grow into a normal boy. With encouragement from his parents,
Linda and Michael Babin, Mike accepted the scars that covered
his body and participated in many school activities through high
school.
After surviving this horrific event, Mike was killed in an
automobile accident at age 30. To commemorate his life, and to
show appreciation of the life changing care provided to Mike,
Linda and Michael named Shriners Hospitals for Children the
beneficiary of their life insurance policy, roughly $1.8 million in
2010.
This is just one story. Shriners Hospitals for Children change the
lives of over 120,000 children each year . Generous
donations from patient families, friends, and supporters allow
Shriners Hospitals for Children to grant the gift of life to Mike and
thousands of children in North America.

Women’s Day
This year, the first annual Kick Off Your Heels Luncheon, coordinated by many of the best known and highly respected women in Las Ve-
gas, will be held in The Hill. Thirty-five (35) tables of ten are expected to be sold to raise money for Shriners Hospitals for Children.
Every woman knows about the swollen feet after attending an event in high heels. That’s why at the golf course, we have made this unique
fundraising event heel-free. Women are encouraged to wear their favorite flats and relax and enjoy the scenic beauty of TPC Summerlin.
The luncheon will feature a prominent female speaker, a delicious menu as well as a female sommelier who will spend time at each table
discussing wines, as well as wine and food pairings. This is an event you don’t want to miss.
