TEACHING EXPERIENCE
Alexandria Faculty of Medicine
For several decades Alexandria Faculty of Medicine employed a discipline-based curriculum. Since the
beginning of academic year 2009 Alexandria Faculty of Medicine has adopted a new teaching modality
(integrated core and organ based module curriculum) to undergraduate students and credit hour
system for postgraduates. Such curricula provide better integration of material across basic sciences
and between basic and clinical sciences. The International Undergraduate Medical Program of
4
Alexandria Faculty of Medicine is also available for foreign students (carrying a foreign nationality) who
have obtained their High school certificate from outside Egypt.
The List of Medical Microbiology and Immunology courses I taught in the discipline-based curriculum
in the form of lectures & practical sessions:
1-General Introductory Courses:
- General Bacteriology - Basic Immunology - General Virology - General Bacteriology - General Mycology
2- Systematic Medical Bacteriology
3- Systematic Medical Virology
4- Systematic Medical Mycology
5- Medical Molecular Microbiology
6- Clinical immunology
These are the modules I teach to undergraduates in integrated core and organ based module
curriculum in the form of lectures, practical sessions and TBL groups:
1. Infection & Immunity Module
2. Cardiovascular System Module
3. Respiratory System Module
4. Genitourinary Module
5. Gastro-Intestinal Module
6. Microbiology of Selected Pathogens (Pathobiology) Module
7. Clinical Microbiology
8. Healthcare
As regards the postgraduates, in addition to microbiology lectures to postgraduates, I am the Course
instructor of Molecular Microbiology (3 credit hours) & Introduction to Diagnostic Microbiology (3
credit hours) courses. I developed the molecular microbiology course and improved the introduction
to diagnostic microbiology course by introducing new lectures like automation in microbiology lab
and lab quality control. In addition, I give lectures in courses for postgraduate students for master
degree of microbiology and other clinical science such as internal medicine, surgery and pediatrics and
doctor degree for microbiology.
5
To enhance the learning processes in the faculty of medicine in Alexandria University by introducing a
new well tested and globally accepted tool which is E-Learning. I was trained for using this tool and
submitted many of my undergraduate lectures online. In addition, I published the Molecular
Microbiology course online.
