Did YOU know?

TRAUMA caused by severe fractures as a result of road traffic accidents, violence, and disasters is one of the major killers of the world, ranked with malaria, TB and HIV/AIDS.

5 Million People Die and Millions more are injured each year as a result of trauma.

INJURY STATISTICS

• 90% of all injuries occur in developing nations.

• For each person killed by trauma, 3 to 8 more are permanently disabled by trauma.

• About 5 million people die from trauma each year, more or less the same as malaria, TB, and HIV/AIDS combined.

• Road traffic accidents (RTAs) are a leading cause of traumatic injury. Each year 1.2 million are killed in RTAs and 20 to 50 million more are injured.

GOAL

TO BUILD A SURGERY CENTER FOR SIGN IN THE

COUNTRY OF TANZANIA.

Establishes a SIGN program. The new program receives onsite training, feedback via the online surgical database, and a full supply of SIGN instrumentation and implants.

Visit Kiwanis Clubs!

Steps to Visit a Kiwanis Club or Division Meeting 1) Ask the President 2-3 weeks before the meeting if

you can give a SIGN presentation. 2) Prepare a speech and possibly show the SIGN video. 3) Print out the SIGN flyer to hand out and the letter

asking for support. 4) Arrive early at the Kiwanis meeting and meet people. 5) After your speech, pass around a bucket to collect

donations. 6) Send a thank you letter.

Successful Fundraisers!

Competition between classes! The class that collects the most money gets to 1) have a party

or 2) pie the teacher in the face at the next assembly, etc. Raised over $2,000

Tie-Dye for Tanzania Sell white shirts for $10 and the tie-dye process for $2-5

dollars; also a great promotion event to spread awareness about Tanzania Raised over $1,000

DCON AWARDS

Divisions and individual Key Clubs that raise the most money will receive recognition at DCON

Top Division will get front row seating at DCON
