OInstructions:Carefully read the description of each use of the past simple and complete the scheme presented below.

Use nº1: Completed action in the past

O Use the Simple Past to express the idea that an action started and finished at a specific time in the past.

Use nº2:A series of completed actions

O Use the Simple Past to list a series of completed actions in the past.

Use nº3:Duration in past

O The Simple Past can be used to refer to a longer action which starts and stops in the past.

Verbs used in SIMPLE PAST

Regular VerbsO Observe the following list of verbs in

their past form and identify the pattern:

Regular VerbsO These verbs conjugate by adding -ed.

O Observe the following list of verbs in their past form and identify the pattern:

Irregular VerbsO These verbs DO NOT follow a pattern. O They take irregular forms in the Simple

Past.

Verb to beO The verb "be" is

also irregular in the Simple Past. Unlike other irregular verbs, there are two Simple Past forms: "was" and "were."

POSITIVE

INTERROGATIVE

NEGATIVE

ONOTE: remember that you only use past verbs in statements. In negative forms "did" indicates Simple Past.
