SAC STATE STUDENTS:

ü  Meet with your program advisor to verify that you are in an appropriate Subject Matter Program (SMP)

ü  If you are not in a SMP, what course work is needed to qualify for an SMP

ProgramOptions

The program offers options: v  2 semester program begin in the fall v  Option to complete program pre-requisite courses in the spring

Placements for student teaching will depend on the specific cohort into which the student is accepted

Program coursework is held at the CSUS campus

Additional Authorization: Option to get the Bilingual Authorization added to your credential if you are fluent in a second language

ProgramStructures

Students admitted into the program are divided into smaller units called “Cohorts” 8 week classes that build on each other through out the two semesters A group of students accepted into the cohort progress through the program together Offers a community of support in which concern for individual students and their development is the focus

TWOSEMESTERPROGRAMThe 2 semester program is designed for students who:

v  already have a significant amount of teaching experience v  demonstrate the ability to assume teaching responsibilities at an accelerated pace

The 2 semester program is intense, challenging (in coursework and teaching responsibilities) and demanding (in time)

Students should be prepared to spend 8 am – 6 pm (Mon-Thur) in field experiences, courses, lesson planning, and preparing for teaching

Students in a 2 semester program MUST meet subject matter requirements, Bachelor degree requirements, and complete ALL pre-requisite courses prior to starting the program

Pre-RequisiteCoursesØ  HLSC 136: School Health Education

Ø  EDUC 100A/B: Educating the Exceptional Learner in Inclusive Settings

Ø  EDUC 170: Introduction to Bilingual Education

The pre-requisite courses are NOT admission requirements, but they must be completed prior to starting the program:

v  Take in a spring semester

v  Take in summer school before starting the two semester program

v  Pre-Requisite Equivalent options for some courses

Must complete the Teacher Preparation Program Application for full program consideration for the fall

**Admission to complete pre-requisites in the spring does not

guarantee admission to a fall program**

BilingualAuthorizationIn-depth preparation to work with English

Learners (EL) through additional coursework and through infusion of EL content in all credential courses.

Emphasis on teachers who are committed to

increasing social justice and educational equity for low income and culturally and linguistically diverse groups

Bilingual Authorization at Sac State offered in

Spanish & Hmong; authorizations in other languages may be available by exam
