Skill Development Committee (2016-17)
Skill development Committee of the college was constituted with an aim to enhance skill set in students of
college to suit the needs of industry and thereby increase employability of the students. The Committee is thankful
to the Principal, SLC, Dr. Rabi Narayan Kar for his immense support and encouragement towards the functioning of this committee.

SDC is thankful to the untiring efforts and dedication of all the team members. Skill Development Committee
of the college organized several skill development workshops for enhancement of skill set in students :
A workshop by Jan Kalyan Parishad regarding one month course under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas
Yojana (PMKVY) conducted by Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship was organized on
12th January, 2016. The speakers elaborated on various initiatives undertaken by the Ministry of Skill
Development. The students participated in large number and also enrolled themselves for the courses
conducted by Jan Kalyan Parishad.
A 15 days workshop on Computer Basics from 24th February 2016 to 9th March 2016 was also organized.
The second edition of the workshop was organized on 30 March-1st April , 2017 was organized in the
Computer Lab, SLC. A batch of 60 students attended the workshop and got benefitted by it. The workshop
enhanced the skills of students with regard to Word Processing, Spreadsheet, PPT, exposure to online
library resources and basic computer hardware. Learned faculty members of the college voluntarily
contributed as resource persons.
A seminar on “Organic Farming : An Upcoming Skill Dimension” was organized in collaboration with
the Garden Committee of college on 11th March,2016.The talks were delivered by Dr. Vasudha Gautam,
Assistant Director, Ministry of Agriculture, Mr. Saurav Ghosh, Secretary, CFM and Mr. Dhruv Kumar
Sharma, Senior Scientist, CFM. The speakers elaborated on various approaches towards Organic Farming
and its relevance in today’s world. They also encouraged students to choose organic farming as career
option.
Workshop on “Online Trading” was organized on 29th March, 2016. The speakers were Mr. Himanshu
Rai, Manager, Edelweiss Asset Management Limited and CS Bareja, Associate Prof., Shyam Lal College
(E), fellow member of ICSI. Various aspects of online trading i.e. mutual funds, rolling settlements,
dematerialization of securities etc. were discussed in the workshop. Practical session on online trading
helped students to have a practical experience of online trading.
Inauguaral Ceremony of Center for Industry Interaction and Skill Development (CIISD) was organized on 26th
August, 2016. The Centre was conceived with the objective of imparting a better understanding of the needs of
industry among our students. The Centre comprises Skill Development Cell, Placement Cell and E-cell of the
college. Inaugural lecture was delivered by Dr. Rabi Narayan Kar, Principal, SLC. The Chief Guest of the
event, Mr. J.M. Babbar elaborated on Skills required for success in Banking Industry.
A seminar on radio broadcasting titled," The Journey of Voice from Microphone to Radio Receiver " on 15th
September,2016.The talk was delivered by Mr.R.K.Singh ,Technical and Programme Consultant at DUCR .
Mr.R.K.Singh enlightened the students and faculty about the journey of radio broadcasting. He explained
various ways of broadcasting viz. medium wave broadcasting, frequency modulation, satellite broadcasting,
internet broadcasting and short- wave broadcasting. The audio- visual aids and presentation he used added to
the audience's interest in the field of broadcasting.
The Skill Development Cell, SLC started a Certificate Course on Radio Broadcasting on 26th Oct.,
2016. Mr.R.K.Singh, Technical and Programme Consultant at DUCR delivered an introductory lecture on the
Radio Broadcasting. A batch of 60 students from different courses in college, having interest in Radio
Broadcasting are enrolled for the certificate course. The course is designed to give students an exposure as well
as practical experience of the field.
Workshop on the topic, "Towards A New Pedagogy: Films, Music, History, Technology and Skill
Development" was organized on 10th January, 2017. The Resource Person for the seminar Mr. Sanjay Kumar,
Assistant Professor, Department of History, SLC enlightened the students and faculty members about the
widespread impact of Art in various forms, due to advanced technology. He beautifully explained the journey of
Indian Cinema and music. The audience was introduced to "Karaoke", a Japanese form of interactive
entertainment in which an amateur singer sings along with the recorded music, using a microphone.
Workshop on "Page Designing and News Packaging" was organized on 25th January, 2017. The resource
persons for the workshop were, Mr. Bharat Bhushan, Associate Producer, NDTV India and Mr. Anurag
Anveshi, Senior Assistant Editor, Jansatta. While Mr. Bharat Bhushan talked about the process of News
Formation in the Television Media, Mr. Anveshi explained the process in Print Media. The workshop gave an
insight on the scope of employment in the Media Sector. The audience got a glimpse of tasks involved in News
making and learned the importance of language in it. The audio-visual aids made the session more interesting.
The participants of Certificate course on Radio Broadcasting and Workshop on Computer basics were
awarded certificates on 21st April,2017. Student members of the SDC were also felicitated in the ceremony.
