Transillumination

• Transillumination is used to help determine if a tooth is vital. It is best performed on larger younger teeth. This test is used in conjuction with radiographic findings.

• A light is shown through the crown of the tooth. If the tooth is healthy the blood vessels absorbs all the colors of the light except red, hence the tooth has a pink glow to it.
