The  Running  of  the  Bulls  in    Pamplona,  one  of  Spain’s  iconic  annual  events.  

Housing  • Residence  halls:  individual  bathroom,  three  

daily  meals,  bed  linens,  towels,  laundry  facilities,  library,  study  room,  TV  room,  computer  lab,  and  a  gym.  

• Home  stays:  a  single  room,  three  daily  meals,  laundry,  bed  linens,  towels,  and  incoming  phone  calls  in  the  home  of  a  local  family.  

Outside  the  Classroom  • 3  day  tour  of  Madrid  and  Toledo  or  Segovia.  • Visit  to  the  Guggenheim  Museum  in  Bilbao.  • Day  trips  to  coastal  villages  including  Bay  of  

Bizcay,  Urdaibai  Natural  Reserve,  and  San  Juan  de  Gaztelugatxe.  

• Historical  trips  to  Gernika  and  Mundaka,  San  Sebastian,  San  Mames  Soccer  Stadium  and  Museum.  

• Day  trip  to  Pamplona  to  see  the  Running  of  the  Bulls  and  San  Sebastian.  

• Day  trip  to  Santillana  de  Mar,  city  tour  and  Altamira  Neo-­‐Cave  Prehistoric  Paintings  and  Exhibition  Center.  

• Additional  excursions  for  Interdisciplinary  Studies  participants.

About  the  Program  • Four  week  trip  to  Spain  during  the  

summer,  from  June  24  to  July  27,  2012.  • Study  at  Universidad  de  Deusto  in  Bilbao.  • Open  to  UMW  students  in  all  majors,  and  

non-­‐UMW  students.  

Program  Fees  • Spanish  Studies  -­‐  $4,875  • Interdisciplinary  Studies  -­‐  $5,275  

Participation  Requirements  • Spanish  language  proficiency  

recommended  but  not  required.  • 12  or  more  UMW  credits.  • Minimum  2.5  GPA.  

General  Education  Requirements  Students  can  complete  the  following  UMW  general  education  requirements:  • Experiential  Learning.  • Global  Inquiry.    • Foreign  Language.

Contemporary  Spain  (in  English)  o Spanish  for  Business  and  

International  Relations  (in  Spanish)  o Intro  to  Statistics  (in  English,  Dr.  

Mellinger)  o Intro  to  Politics  in  the  Middle  East  

and  North  Africa  (in  English,  Dr.  Singh)
