    INTRODUCTION

    TheDCS-5020DigitalConsoleSystemisdesignedtomeettheneedsofthesmalltomedium-sizedoperationscontrolroom.CombiningtelephonyandbothdigitalandanalogueradiocontroltoeitherdirectwiredorIPconnecteddispatchpositions,theDCS-5020meetsarangeofprofessionalapplicationsforpublicsafety,transportation,utilities,oil,gas,miningandprivateindustry.Offeringmanyofthefeaturesofatraditionalconsolesystem,theDCS-5020isbasedonadistributedarchitecturewhichremovestherequirementforacentralswitch,andalsoallowsIPconnecteddispatchpositionstobeplacedanywhereonanassociatedIPNetwork.Thisensuresafullyscalablesolutiondowntoasingleoperatorpositionandprovidesahighlevelofsystemresilienceformissioncriticalapplications.

    DESCRIPTION

    TheDCS-5020integratestelephonyandradio,callhandling,monitoringandloggingfunctionsintoasingleoperatorinterface.Thesystemsupportsupto30ports,witheachassignabletoeitheroperator,telephoneorradiocircuits.Thereareupto16operatorpositionspossible,eachcomprisingahostPCandvideomonitor,withdesktopspeakers,connectedtothemaincontrolequipmenteitherdirectwiredorviaanIPNetwork.Optionalaccessoriesincludeheadset,gooseneck/deskmicrophone,PTTfootswitch,andkeyboard.

    ThehostPCrunsZetron’sWindows®-basedIntegratorDCS™software,providingagraphicaluserinterface(GUI)presentingthetelephone/radiochannelsandsystemfunctionsavailabletotheoperator.Thevideomonitorcanbefull-size,compactLCDorpartofaninbuiltpanelPCtofitcontrolroomrequirements.Touchscreenand/ormouse/trackballcontrolisavailable.TheoperatorGUIisextensivelyconfigurableandscreenoperationcanbeprovidedinarangeoflanguages.

    Thedesktopspeakersandheadsetcanbeusedtominimizedesktopspacerequirements.Thespeakers–eachwithavolumecontrol—areforactiveconversation(select)audioandmonitored(unselect)audioandcomeineitherdesktoporpanelmountoptions.OptionallytheDCS-5020canincludeanintegratedInstantRecallRecording(IRR)capabilitythatallowsoperatoraudiotobeloggedontheconsolePCwithplaybackcontrolledfromtheGUI.

    ThecontrolinterfacetothetelephoneandradiochannelsisthroughthecompactDCS-5020DigitalSwitch.EachDigitalSwitchsupportsuptosixinterfaceportswithadditionalsystemportsprovidedbylinkingDigitalSwitchestogetherusingfibre,coaxialortwistedpaircable.ThesystemarchitecturesupportsflexiblesystemlayoutwithoperatorpositionsandsystemresourcesbeinglocaltoorremotefromeachotherviatraditionalconnectionorIPNetworks.EachinterconnectedDigitalSwitchandtheinterfaceportsontheswitchareaccessiblefromanyotherDigitalSwitch,meaningtheradioandtelephoneresourcesoneachswitchmaybesharedincommonwithallpositionsinthesystem.IntheunlikelyeventthatasingleDigitalSwitchfails,theonlyimpactisonthoseoperator,telephoneandradioresourcesconnectedtothatswitch.Allothersharedresourcescontinuetobeavailabletotheremainingpositions.Ifaswitchisisolatedduetolinkfailureitwillstilloperateautonomouslywithanyconnectedconsolesandresourcesuntilit’sconnectiontothemainsystemisre-established.

    BynetworkingtheoperatorconsolePCs,operatorsmaygainaccesstocorporatephonedirectories,databases,andweb-basedservicessuchasthirdpartyCallIDinformationorwebbasedvideofeeds.

    Small Control RoomsTheDCS-5020isaneconomicsolutionforsmallcontrolroomsforpublicsafety,oilandgas,mining,events,industry,portsandharbours.Itbringsmanyofthefeaturesofalargecontrolcentreintothesmallercontrolroomenvironment.Theintegratedradioandtelephonefunctionalityallowstheoperatortoperformbothcalltakinganddispatchfunctions.Itcanbeemployedasanincidentcontrolroomwithoutimpactingontheroleoftheprimarycontrolcentre.

    Mobile Command CentreMobilecommandcentrescanbeestablishedforspecialevents,accidentsorothermajorincidentsbydeployingtheDCS-5020asatransportablepackage.Theoperatorcanhaveaccesstomultipleradioworkinggroups,conventionalradiochannelsortelephonecircuitstomanageincidentpersonnel.Fortrulytransportableapplications,thetelephoneportsmaybefittedwithGSMterminalsformobiletelephonyservice.Digitalradioconnectivityisdonethroughanumberoffixeddigitalradiosratherthandirecttotheinfrastructure,providingaquickdeployablesolution.

    Fallback Control CentresTheDCS-5020hasaspecificapplicationfordigitalradiooperatorstoensurebasiccommunicationsaremaintainedintheeventoffailureofkeyelementsoftheinfrastructure.Failuresofthenetworkcontroller,linkstorepeatersites,ortheprimarycontrolroomareaddressedbytheDCS-5020fallbacksolutionwhichmaintainscriticalcommunicationsbetweencontrolroomandfieldpersonnelviawirelessinterfacingtothenetwork.Awirelessconsoleispreferredinthesesituationswhereconnectiontotheinfrastructureisnotsuitableforapplication,tooexpensiveornotpossibleduetothelocationofthecontrolroom.

    Command and Control Centres with Mixed Technologies - PatchingForoperatorsmigratingfromconventionaltodigitalradio,theDCS-5020providesabridgeenablingoperatorstomanagebothnetworksfromasingleposition.Additionally,theoperatorcansetupaninterconnectionor“patch”betweenthetwonetworkssofieldpersonnelononenetworkcanspeakdirectlywiththeother.Thepatchcanalsobesetpermanentlyusingthemaintenanceterminal.
