As we begin a new school year, we are excited to launch our new one-to-one Chromebook Initiative in grades 9-12 which will enhance the rigorous academics and many learning opportunities already offered to students.
Chromebooks are notebook computers powered by the Google Chrome web browser. They will provide access to Google Apps for Education (GSuite), as well as any educational resource available on the web. Students will have the opportunity to com-plete research and writing in their classes on a reg-ular basis as well as complete collaborative and project-based activities. They will also have access to personalized study resources, and teachers will be able to individually assess students to better tailor instruction to the needs of their students. The Chromebook model selected has the added benefit of functioning as a tablet so that print materials such as textbooks and worksheets can be transi-tioned to digital format. At the same time, students will have the power of a computer to be able to cre-ate content and complete more in-depth writing assignments and projects. Students have already begun to enroll in Google Classroom and are com-pleting much of their work online.
In order to maximize the benefit of this new pro-gram, students and teachers will be provided with the skills necessary to fully utilize these new devic-es. The faculty is completing professional develop-ment so that every teacher is skilled in incorporat-ing the Chromebooks into the curriculum. In addi-tion, Freshmen are enrolled in a new Computing Fundamentals course in order to teach them how to use Google Tools and Microsoft Office. Information literacy skills will also be taught so that students can effectively conduct research. These skills will not only benefit students during their four years of high school but prepare them for college and future careers as well.
This program is technically possible thanks to a new, state-of-the-art campus-wide computer net-work and WiFi infrastructure that will provide new technology opportuni-ties for our faculty and students for years to come. It is a truly ex-citing time to be a Bayhawk!

UPCOMING COLLEGE FAIRS
If you are a sophomore or a junior, you will be taking the PSAT on Wednes-day, October 11th. This is the first step along the road of standardized testing that lies ahead. The College Board has advised students that they will receive their score reports electronically in December. In addition to the electronic score report, students will have access to their actual test booklet. This will give them a chance to review the exact exam questions and their answers.
The PSAT is extremely beneficial to students because it provides them with the opportunity to identify their strengths, as well as the areas they may need to improve on.
Guidance counselors are available to meet with students by appointment to review their PSAT exam, as well as offer information regarding SAT prep options. The Guidance Department recommends that students take at least one SAT exam during the spring of their junior year, and retaking the exam in the fall of senior year. In addition, juniors should also consider taking the ACT exam in December and/or April. These suggestions are general guide-lines and students should speak individually with their counselor to discuss their own unique testing timeline.
** Please note that the PSAT will be administered during the
school day for sophomores and juniors only. Freshman and sen-
iors will not have school during this administration.**

Bevern on completing the Molloy College Business Boot Camp this
past June! This is a highly selective program which allows students
to experience the real life business world.
Students must apply for, and be selected
for this program during their junior year.
Job well done!!
Congratulations to Anthony La Luna and Brady Lyons for qualifying
as Semifinalists in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program!!

and represent the top 0.5% percent of the state’s senior students.
Congrats again on an amazing accomplishment!
A Note from our School Social Worker Welcome Back!!
The halls are filled with life again, hustling from room to room and building to building. Most of
you are excited to be back. Happy to see your friends, excited to learn and participate in activities
and sports that you love. For some, fear and apprehension exists. The good news is we get to start
over not only each September, but every day! I challenge each and every one of you to expand your-
self, your friend groups, your tolerance of other’s thoughts, beliefs and differences. Try something
new, join a club or participate in an activity. I challenge you to be a leader, an up-stander, and to em-
pathize with others and to promote a climate of respect, inclusion and compassion. It is no easy
challenge, but I believe if every day you wake up and mentally
make a decision to do one positive thing, say one kind word, our
school will be even better place for all students!
Make it a great year!!
Mrs. Jennings
Social Worker
Please feel free to share your accomplishments with us so that we can include you in our Guidance Shout Outs section!!
