SHFB Update First 6 Months FY 2010/11

• 23.5 Million Pounds of Food

• Serving almost 250,000 people every month - Nearly 300,000 people received food in December

• Pace of growth has slowed

• Food Connection call volume down slightly

• “Intensity” of use by clients has increased at pantries

Environmental Impacts

• Increased automation at Social Services Agency

• Government Agencies – Funding & Staff Cuts

• Cuts in Funding For Providers – State/County/City

• Reduced/Eliminated Services

• January SHFB Partner Closures – 3 Pantries and 1 Shelter

Areas of Concern

• SHFB feels like it will be in a strong position to continue to support our community partners with food.

• Health of partner agency distribution network

• Potential Cuts In Federal Nutrition Programs

• Potential Cuts In Local Programs & Services

• Vulnerable Populations – Seniors, children and adults without minor dependent children

Future • Second Harvest Food Bank is committed to work in

partnership to close the hunger gap.

• CalFresh (Food Stamps/SNAP) opportunities

• Produce will continue to be a significant make-up of the food SHFB provides.

• Work with partners to address their needs in providing food.
