unita’s Solo Harp book was published to complement her third recording bythe same name. Jewish melodies from around the Mediterranean and Celtic
music from the British Isles are woven together to celebrate the unique role theharp has played in the folkloreand music of both traditions. From King David’s healingmusic in ancient Israel, to theCeltic bards of Great Britain, the harp has a long tradition inboth cultures.
Sunita lives in Israel and hasbeen exploring Jewish andCeltic music for more than twodecades. It was during her earlyyears there in the 1980s that she met her Scottish husband in Jerusalem and beganworking with Israeli musicians, developing her own style of Klezmer, Sephardic, and Israeli folk music. She also traveled to Scotland where she bought her firstclarsach (Scottish folk harp), and began associations with musicians there, whichled to invitations to perform and teach at the Edinburgh Harp Festival. Sunita hasalso performed at the Edinburgh International Festival Fringe with her ensemble,VIDA, and with the Jerusalem Symphony and the Minnesota Opera. Whileclassically trained, her great love is traditional music, and she performs both solo, and in duets and ensembles in Israel.
Sunita has been playing harp since she was a child. She began with teachers in hernative Minnesota, and later traveled to study with some of the great harpists of ourtime, in New York, Paris and Tel Aviv. She graduated from Tufts University inMassachusetts and earned her masters degree from the Manhattan School ofMusic. She later became a music practitioner and studied the healing properties ofthe harp in hospitals and therapeutic settings, and participating in medical studiesat Meir Hospital in Israel. She publishes articles about her work as a harp therapistand founded a non-profit organization, NEVEL, to further the work and trainharpists to become practitioners.
Sunita performs and conducts workshops and master classes throughout the worldat festivals, music schools, and pubic venues. She has released 14 recordings onthe Maxemilian, Excelsior, and Silver Lining record labels, and has published 12books of her arrangements for solo harp, and harp & flute.
