Sweet Spring 2012 Collection

As much as the Sweet team likes to be in front of the camera when it is all about shooting skate photos as little do they enjoy being in front of one when it is time to shoot a catalogue.

Every year the same thing happens, everyone tries to hide when the cam-era is out and when we finally do get a photo it‘s of someone looking and feeling really awkward.

So for this seasons shoot we decided we would just take the skate photos whilst on tour with the Sk8Mafia, not telling anyone that certain photos were meant for the catalogue. At the end of the trip we would throw a big party in the studio and have the photos shot without people thinking too much about it.

During this warm early summer week there was one special day that for sure will live long in the memories of those who were on the trip. Since forever there has been stories about a skateable secret military for-

tress in the Stockholm archipelago. Everyone has said that it is not as good as you might think or that you get kicked off the island straight away.

Well let us just say that the part of the story that says it is not good for skateboarding is one big lie. On the contrary it might be one of the most amazing natural skateparks in the world.

We got there at noon with a special taxi boat that dropped us of at the beautiful small island of Siarö. We had hardly got of the boat before a man who ran this little café next to the dock told us that it was prohibited to skate and that he was sorry about that.

At the time he said this some of the guys had already found the secret for-tress and the skating was on. We thought he would come back any second to kick us out but I guess he decided that whatever and just let us skate because he never came back.

Standing on the top of the fortress you see a snakerun with grindable world war I cannons, gaps over the surrounding moat and bumps over rails and ditches. There is even a hidden manualpad and tight quarterpipes at the bottom of the 2000 m2 military snakerun. All of this surrounded by stunning nature and the ocean within a stones throw.

While some skated others drank cold beers, ate and sunbathed with their backs against the cannons. You would never have thought that something once meant to protect from a terrible war could feel so picturesque. I won-der what the soldiers posted there would have thought if they could have seen what it was used for a hundred years after.

When the day came to its end and we headed back to the boat the man who told us not to skate, he told us that he had decided that this was the last time people could skate the island and that we were the last lucky ones.

As planned at the end of the tour we did lock everyone in the studio and partied the hell out of ourselves drinking Moscow mule´s, Cuba libre´s and cold Stella´s. The result as you can see in the catalogue is a team at least thinking they look better, for sure more confident and for other undisclosed reasons looking more relaxed than ever.
