seconds, averaging over 28
mph and he came 2nd in the
Shropshire Cycling Time Trial
Championships. Since then
he reckons it’s all been down-
hill (the cycling analygy should
be up hill), and an injury last
year curtailed his achieve-
ments of the previous year.
Training involves a holiday to
Majorca each year and around
7000 miles of riding in a good
year, plus eating lots of cakes!
He still enjoys touring and
have toured Cuba and India
(Sikiim in the Himalayas) this
year (2010) and am going
away to Argentina and Chile to
see their lake district and the
Andes this January.
David always enjoyed cycling
as a sporting activity, he
regularly went off touring
covering many miles each
time. However, in 2007 he
started taking his hobby
very seriously and started
racing. He took part in the
Paris-Brest-Paris race that
year. This race precedes
the Tour De France,
although the idea for the
amateur is just to make it
round the circuit! David
actually completed 1200 km
in 80 hours including about
10 hours of attempts at
sleeping! He also set a
club record for a 24 hour
time trial of 403 miles in the
same year!
David’s fastest race was in
2008, he managed to ride 10
miles in 21 minutes, 23

Louise’s lucrative lunch Louise doesn’t usually come up
for air as she’s talking all the
time! However, one boring,
rainy lunch time in March she
decided to stay at her desk with
a cup of tea, her favourite buttie
and read a copy of the ICB
Yearbook that was lying around
on her desk. She spotted an
interesting article entitled
“Technology—Investment,
innovation and enterprise in a
wobbly year” (pages 4-10). She
was particularly interested to read
a section on Carpet waste
recycling. It was about a new pile
removal system that has been
developed by Sellers Engineers.
Sellers was already creating
widespread interest in both the
carpet manufacturing sector and
the waste recycling industry. It
was then that Louise decided to
carry out some research. The
company details
appeared on our database,
however, we had not contacted
them for a while and had in fact
been previously qualified out by
Marketing staff. Louise called
them up for a general catch up
and enquired if they were looking
to review their business systems
and sent some information about
Syscom. By June our (then) new
sales guy, Mike Podmore was

Syscom Christmas Meal 2010 Dunsley Hall Hotel, Kinver
Thanks to John and Chris allowing us an afternoon out of the office, those who attended, enjoyed another
relaxing festive afternoon of Christmas fayre and cheer on 16th December, at our favourite country hide away
for the 2nd year running - Dunsley Hall Hotel, Kinver. The after dinner party carried on well into the evening
thanks to some hard core individuals who shall remain nameless. They enjoyed themselves immensely and
managed to turn up for work the next day, despite being a little worse for wear!
Well done to all of you involved, it was good to see so many people enjoying themselves after an extremely
challenging year.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all. If you have any ideas for topics to be included in the next
