**You CAN graduate with honors and not graduate with a Distinguished diploma!**

Seniors •  College Algebra Dual Credit – grade of 3.0 or

higher •  Psychology Dual Credit – grade of 3.0 or higher •  Sociology Dual Credit – grade of 3.0 or higher •  All AP courses – must score 3 or above on the

College Board Advanced Placement Exam •  Advanced CTE courses –specific ATC courses

Scholarships for Freshmen Students Scholarships are offered to freshman students based on SAT and ACT scores

TSI Test

•  Tests reading, math and writing • REQUIRED for all state universities •  Some private schools require different test • REQUIRED for Talkington students to

adhere to College Readiness standards •  Passing this test allows students to register

for college classes and not have to take a remedial English or Math course

have a “safety school.” ü Request applications. ü Meet with college representatives when you

get the chance. ü Work on application essays. Get someone to

proofread them! ü Request teacher and counselor

recommendations, if needed.

Bits & Pieces

Recommendation Letters • Be sure to give your teachers, counselors or

anyone else writing your letters plenty of time (at least 2 weeks) to get them written.

•  Provide your letter writer with enough information to be able to write a good letter!

•  The counselors need two school weeks to get the letter written and sent off.

•  Provide stamped envelopes to the writer.

Financial Aid Tips • Check with the colleges you are applying to

for pertinent information. • Be mindful of all deadlines! • Complete the FAFSA in October senior year. •  If you find a website that is charging you for

the FAFSA, you are on the wrong website. There is NO FEE to apply.
