The Centenary essay competition!!!

Bread and butter question...

What was it about?

• 2012 - 2013 is the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the Labour Party and of the 1913 Lockout. To celebrate these events The Centenary Committee launched an Essay Competition around this theme.

• The subject of the competition was based on the causes of these events, their story and their results and implications up to the present day.

The prize..

• A trip to Brussels for 20 pupils and four teachers/adults to see the workings of the European Parliament!!!

Members...

The first time Mr. Mc Taggart mentioned the competition was in History class in mid September,

and instantly the four of us thought that it would be a good

idea. By the end of class, we had formed our group and had planned our project with Brussels in mind...

What we did?

• Timeline• Pictures • Poetry• Re-enactment • 40 page essay• Newspaper article• Cover art• Forgotten figure • 4 portraits of key figures – James Connolly,

‘Big’ Jim Larkin, William O’Brien, William Martin Murphy.

The movie...

• This movie took approximately two classes to rehearse and film with the help of Miss Sweeney and her 4th year and TY drama classes.

• Thanks all who participated in this clip! Your help was much appreciated!!!

• 1913 lockout- a re-creation - YouTube

Production of the movie

As a final word...

We would like to thank everyone for helping us with our project,

whether it be their support, or involvement in the movie, it was

much appreciated!!!

We would also like to thank our teachers for their support,

especially Mr. Mc Taggart for helping us with our project the whole way through, between

overlooking the project and for giving us original ideas, and not

forgetting letting us work in a lot of his history classes!!!

THANK YOU!!!
