Dear friends,
Greetings in the
name of the Lord Je-sus Christ! Summer is upon us! May ends
with Memorial Day, where we remember those who gave their all that we might be
free, that I might be sitting here openly in a church that proclaims Jesus Christ as Lord.
In many places in the world, such is not the case, and we have the Lord and our veter-
ans to thank for the privilege of freedom.
The Texas Annual Conference will
take place in the last few days of May, be-ginning on May 28 and going through May 31 at the Woodlands United Methodist
Church. Conference is the annual business meeting and celebration, hearing from our
Bishop Scott Jones and from other leaders on the state of the Church. We’ll have cele-
brations of newly commissioned and or-dained clergy, honoring those who have re-
tired in the last year, and remembering those who have died. All are invited, and
the schedule can be found at www.txcumc.org
We have some special events in June, with a guest preacher June 18. David Hull is the Director of the Core Team USA of the
Inspire Movement. You may remember our guest preacher from England last August,
Phil Meadows. Phil is the founder of Inspire and if you were hear you will remember how
the Lord spoke through him to all of us. Da-vid is an inspiring speaker. I have the privi-
lege of being part of a Wesleyan “band” with David, one of four who earnestly seek to
know more of God. It is these intentional “bands” that John Wesley put in place that
became a core of the Methodist movement which changed England. I am praying that
such a thing can be rooted here at Lake Houston, and we will have several groups of
men and women ardently seeking more of God. Please plan to be here June 18. Pray
for revival.
Youth and adults (including a local banjo player!) will be leaving for FUGE camp
for the week of June 19. FUGE is based out of the Houston Baptist University, and the
kids and adults spend time in the Word, go out to serve at a mission site, come back for
worship and end the day with small groups. I loved that we met together every night as
our church group, so we could share togeth-er what God was doing in our lives. Many of
those who went on last year’s camp either committed or re-committed their lives to
Christ. Pray for revival.
On June 25 Mike and Jessica Fre-chette will be here from the mission field to
give us an update on their activities. Lake Houston UMC has partnered with Mike and
Jessica for several years, and we’ll hear how their work in going in the fields of the Lord.
Pray for revival – not only our youth, not only our church, not only our nation, but
for the world. Pray for revival. Even so, Come Lord Jesus!
Faithfully in Jesus Christ,
Pastor Frank

The Prayer Corner by Janie Webster
You may have noticed that Pastor
Frank proclaims the same weekly benedic-
tion at the end of each Sunday service. He
speaks over us the following life-changing
words from Romans 12:1-2 that the apostle
Paul wrote to the church in Rome: I beseech you therefore, brothers, by the mer-
cies of God, that you present your bodies a
living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God,
which is your reasonable service (spiritual
act of worship).
And be not conformed to this world: but be
transformed by the renewing of your mind,
that you may prove what is that good, and
acceptable, and perfect will of God.
Pastor Frank recently shared with us at
Tues. prayer service that Paul’s above
words have been personally life-changing
for him. He told us how, through studying,
memorizing and verbalizing those words, he
has “internalized” them. That is to say,
they’ve become real to him and have
worked change within him over a period of
time. For, as Hebrews 4:12 says, “…the
Word of God is living and active…” And, as
II Corinthians 5:17 says, “…if anyone is in
Christ, he is a new creation, the old has
gone, the new has come.” Words like “new
creation” and “transformation” clearly
speak of CHANGE. I know there are those
who don’t think people can change. But,
verse after verse in God’s Word clearly says
that’s not so! Because being in Christ is all
about changing, growing, and becoming
more like Him. For, when we give our lives
to the Lord and begin to “present our bod-
ies as living sacrifices to Him”, that means
He shows us how to daily lay aside our own
desires to follow Him. And as we spend
time with Him in prayer and in His Word, the
Holy Spirit reveals to us our great need to
have more of Jesus and less of self. As the
contemporary praise song says, “Change
my heart, oh God, make it ever true.
Change my heart, oh God, may I be like
You.” And when we sing those words whole-
heartedly, when we earnestly yearn to be
more like Him, He teaches us (sometimes
through difficulties and trials) how to love
the unlovable and how to see people’s
hurts instead of just the wounds they inflict.
In short, He shows us how to put aside self
& serve Him through better loving, under-
standing, and serving others. In short, He
grows us in the holiness He calls us to, as
He changes us over time, from the inside
out. *A final point / food for thought. My
Bible footnote suggests that our highest act
of worship might simply be- letting God
CHANGE US!
Our Tuesday prayer group has been dia-
loguing and praying with Pastor Frank about
Romans 12:1-2 and about God’s vision for
LHUMC. We believe God’s calling us to be
those “living sacrifices, holy, acceptable un-
to Him…”.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------- Oh, Holy Father, please help us become those
"living sacrifices", yielded to You and desiring the deep-
down daily change within us- that will make us more
effective agents of change in the world. We don't need
more church programs, Lord! We need more of YOU!!
Please reveal Your vision for us, and unite us in prayer.
It's in Your precious name we pray, Lord Jesus, and in
the power of the Holy Spirit, expecting You to bring Your
will for LHUMC, to pass.
We praise You, Lord. We love and need You, Lord.
Amen.

In children's church
we are talking about
what really matters?
Have you ever been
placed in a situation
where you were asked
to do something you
knew was wrong, and
the consequences of refusing were monumental?
What did you think? Maybe it won't really matter
if I do this once. Only one time, never again. The
Lord will understand. Or did you come to God and
pray? Did you say, "Lord, what's Your mind about
this matter? What instructions do You want to
give me through Your guidebook for life, the Bi-
ble?" Then did you turn to your Bible for an-
swers?
I don't know about you, but sometimes when a
crisis arises, I find myself asking others to pray
before I've talked to God about the situation my-
self. I've come to realize that God wants me to
read His Word and talk to Him first. We con-
stantly carry a personal conversation with our-
selves. We evaluate every situation. We review
conversations we've had with others over and
over in our minds. We carry on an internal discus-
sion about life and our evaluation of it.
I believe God
wants us to in-
vite Him into
that conversa-
tion. That's
what I believe
Paul means when he tells us to "pray without ceas-
ing." God never gives us a command that we can't
fulfill. So instead of talking to yourself, why not
start talking to God?
Pray without ceasing. 1 Thessalonians 5:17

Each month LHUMC partners with Huffman First Baptist to provide a food pantry for the com-munity.
Participants are required to reside in the Huffman ISD. They are allowed to go once per month.
The food bank is open Tuesday and Thursday from 9am - 12 noon.
Attention Travelers: The small soaps, shampoos and other personal items that you find in hotel rooms are great items to donate to the food pantry. These items are kept in a basket on the counter so that those that need the items can help themselves. If you would bring these items home with you when you travel, then you can donate to the
food pantry. Just a way to help without spending any additional funds.
Our church is responsible
to stock the shelves with the following items:
Tuna
Diced Tomatoes
Peanut Butter
Spaghetti Sauce
Spaghetti Pasta
Jelly
Canned Meat
Soup
Canned Chicken
Macaroni Noodles
Canned Veggies
Canned Ravioli
Macaroni & Cheese
Canned Fruit
Any nonperishable food item is appreciated as well as toiletries.
We Collect POP TABS
For Ronald
McDonald House I want to say "Thank You" to everyone who so gener-
ously saves pop tabs from soda, soup, etc. cans for Ronald
McDonald House!! (There is a jar for them in the Sanctuary
kitchen and the CFC.) This is a big help for Ronald McDonald
Houses everywhere! They have made many thousands of
dollars from this program to help families who need to stay in
these Houses while their children are hospitalized near by.
Our church has saved a lot of tabs to help
them throughout the years. It is an on-going mis-
sion of ours. Thank you and God Bless you for
it! Sincerely,
