Extinction

Extinction

The number of animals at risk from extinction is growing each day.

SAY goodbye to the African elephant, the black rhinoceros and jaguar, for sure. Possibly to the leopard, the polar bear and hippopotamus as well. Most exotic mammals in Australia's zoos are headed for local extinction.

The number of foreign species that the public can see will start to shrink from 127 mammals to as few as 31 in years to come, a survey of the zoos has found.

Never mind the zoo. These animals could be extinct in your lifetime.

In the world today, there are 19,000 species of plants and 5,000 species of animals in danger of extinction. Some are in danger because their natural habitats, such as forests and coral reefs, are being destroyed. Other animals are threatened by acid rain, or water contaminated by toxic chemicals.

Endangered animals

This baby tiger has been rescued from his mother who was killed by a poacher. He was lucky. Baby tigers are often stuffed. One was in a shop in London for £20,000.

EXTINCTION

There are 5,000 tigers left alive in the world. The year is 2006. One a day is lost to poachers.

In 2016 the number of tigers left in the world will be 1,350

In 2017 the number will be 985

In 2018 the number left will be 620

In 2019 there will not be a single tiger left alive in the entire world.

Hopefully some museums will have a stuffed one for you to see. Like the one seen here.

The tiger is in danger of immediate extinction

If humans allow this animal to become extinct for greed, what a pity. Are we such an intelligent species? It seems incredible that in our lifetime the total destruction of this animal is a reality. Our indifference to this must seem shocking. If only enough of us could stop what looks like becoming inevitable.

Endangered apes

The Gorilla is on the endangered list.

The lemur is on the endangered list.

Whales continue to be hunted to extinction.

The World is in Danger How does this relate to Religion?

Most faiths teach that there is a purpose to life.

To enjoy life you have to look after it

Not suck all the natural resources from it.

Oil, coal, minerals etc.

One Religious view of how the World was made.

• The Bible the holy book for Christians.

• Genesis the first book

• The world was created by God in 6 days

• Each aspect of the creation was made on a separate day.

• This shows order. The world was formed out of nothing.

• Then God made man & woman

Christianity• In the Bible in the book of Genesis it says God

created the World.• Adam & Eve are created in the image of God.

They are meant to care for

the Garden of Eden.

The creation of Adam from the dust of the ground.

Genesis

mankind is bound to the earth.
