What is the Golden Ratio

Mathematically speaking, the Golden Ratio is anirrational number, approximately 1.618. This numberappears very often in geometry, but it also has it's tiesto art. Pictures and objects that fit into the GoldenRatio are considered to be pleasing to look at. The ratiocan be found frequently in ancient Greek architectureand several pieces of classical art, including Leonardoda Vinci's Mona Lisa.

The image below is a visual representation of theGolden Ratio. It is comprised of a rectangle. When youcut the rectangle into segments, you get a perfectsquare and a smaller rectangle, that has the sameexact proportions as the original rectangle.
