guards, a roomy cabin and spacious stateroomsa large as ordinary sized bedrooms, furnishedwith every convenience, besides whloh she is fastand sate, and sets a fne table.

On her way down this trip, and when within 15iles of Donaldsonville, the Eureka broke a

wrist, and before the engines could be stopped, acylinder head, the replacing of which necessitatedher losing a trip, and postponing her excursionto the sea shore until Thursday next, the 12thInst.

OCapt. Terrebonne regrets very much this meacident, on account of disappointing the many whohad engaged to go with him. The Eureka willleave on her next regular day, Monday, for theLafourche, and Thursday on her excnrsion.

Drake gave Smith's new. angle reaction propeller,wheel a fair trial yesterday, and when the fact letaken into consideration that it was too large awheel for the Drake's motive power, it workedquite satisfaetorily. The wheel in question islive and one-half teet in diameter, when one fivefeet would have answered. During her trip toEvanston and return the average sveed attainedwas nine miles an hour, and 108 revolutionsper minute were made by the wheel, whereas145 revolutions had been made withthe old style wheel. The vesselwas checked up quickly yesterday, and was rap-idly backed in making landings. Captain Coxis well pleased with the wheel, but desires asmaller one, cr else he will reject it. The onenow on tthe Drake was intended for the tug Mo-sher, which has a double engine, and theref repower sufficient to move it, but Mr. Dunham de.aired the experiment to be made on the Drake,and it was done. Mr. Smith has tented his wheelon the Illinois river, and claims economy andadditional speed for it as comoared with othersnow in general use. He says he can put a wheelin the Drake that will run her twelve miles anhour at least."

A little steamboat has just arrived in this portfrom Baltimore, which was propelled the entiredistance between the two cities without wheel orscrew. She now lies at the Atlantic Basin,Brooklyn, sad will probably be exhibited in mo-tion before she leaves this city. Itis called the St. Louis and New Orleans PacketLine, and is organizing, articles of associationhaving been filed at Jefferson City. Place ofbusiness, ht. Louis, Missouri; place of opera-tions, Mississippi and Ohio rivers and their trib-utaries. The directors are W. F. Davidson,John N. Bofinger, B. B. Pegram, E. A. thebleand Thos. W. Shields. Capital stock, $41,000.The company will charter all the steamers theywant. This enterprise is similar to the, line run-ning between New Orleans and Shreveport.
