Did someone borrow a large 24"-30" frosted and clear glass oval vase from the women's' room? It was stored on the file cabinet and
given to us by Christina and Tom Wolf for large flower arrange-ments for funeral lunches, etc.? Did someone borrow a CD/radio
player from the CWF room (lavender and silver in color)? We love having nice things available for use by the women's group,
and would appreciate borrowed items being returned within a few days. If you know anything about these items, please call 744-4860
Valetha Ermoian or see me Sunday. Thank you.

I want to take this opportunity to say “Thank You” for all of your prayers—cards & concerns during my time of sor-row. Losing two brothers within 2 1/2 weeks has been very hard for me (and my family). Your prayers have been a com-fort for me! The love & support that I have received from Lakewood—My church family—has been tremendous! Thanking you again, I am Sincerely, Nan-cy Newman Vinson
"And whenever you pray, do not be like the hypo-crites; for they love to stand and pray in the syna-gogues and at the street corners, so that they may be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. NRSV Matthew 6:5 It is a basic truth that good communication is key to
healthy church life. But good communication is so much more than just talking or writ-ing and involves more than just the individuals around us. We should begin our good communication skills with prayer. We must communicate dai-ly with our God. Why? So that we might center our lives in God and listen to the lead-ings of God in order to make wise and good choices. Secondly, we must communicate with one another. We need to be aware of what is going on in the community. Not just the plans and activities of the congregation, but what is going on in each other’s lives. So that we might communicate in a way that is meaningful to the one we which to convey information. It is here that we find the most important aspect of good communication. We need to talk ‘to’ one another and not ‘at’ one another. You see when we talk at one another we are not truly communicating we are just telling someone about ourselves, desires and wants. While this is not necessarily bad there is much more to life, especially in the church, than just our own desires and needs. However, when we talk to someone we ex-change ideas, desires, wants and needs. We also discover how we can help and be helped by sharing our thoughts. This is also true in our prayer lives. We must remember to talk to God not just at God. God is listening, God wants to listen, but God also wants to re-spond. Finally, let us remember that communication is everyone’s responsibility. Both the speak-er and the hearer, this is another aspect of talking ‘to’ someone. Also we must seek out information not just hope that by some miracle it will happen. Again, this includes our seeking out information in the community and from God. God has a lot to say and so do your brothers and sisters in the church and the world. Are you listening? Peace, Pastor James
