Hitler violates Treaty of Versailles by rearming Germany

October 1935: Mussolini invades Ethiopia

March 1936: The Nazis begin their aggression

by occupying the Rhineland.

1937

July 1937: Japan

sweeps into China.

1938

March 1938: The Nazis march into Austria after its annexation.

Spring 1938: Immediately after the Austrian Anschluss, Hitler demands the Sudetenland in Czechoslovakia.

September 1938: Hitler meets with Neville Chamberlain, British prime minister, to discuss the future of Czechoslovakia at the Munich Conference.

Chamberlain declares “peace in our time.”
