THE ROTARY CLUB OF SANTA MARIA
Laura Mohajer 2011-2012 President
THE ROTATOR JULY 26, 2011
Editor: Frank Culley

Basic PRLS was held this last Saturday, July 23rd at the Historical Santa Maria Inn. This class was well attended with 21 bright and eager students. They came from Ventura, Cambria, San Luis Obispo, Los Olivos, Cayucos and yes, as far
away as Santa Maria.
The instructors were Robert Cabral who hails from Thousand Oaks, Doug Hoffman from San Luis Obispo and none other than Sharon Girod, our District 5240 COO (Chief Operating Officer, second to the District Governor) who lives in
China Lake.
Now just why do folks like these three, with their own businesses, or are high up in Rotary, with a lot of responsibili-ties, give up a day of their valuable time and travel great dis-tances to teach a PRLS class? Well I know a couple of the an-swers because I have talked with them about this. It is because they totally believe in the PRLS program. It is because they have seen PRLS graduates go on to do great things in life as well as in Rotary. It is because they believe in the concept of
“Service”.
PRLS is an unbelievable value. For $50.00 (which many clubs pay) and a day of your time, you receive what many people pay thousands of dollars for. You receive training that absolutely will make you a better person, a better business per-
son and a better and more effective Rotarian.
What is holding you back if you haven’t yet attended
the PRLS seminars?
Here is the syllabus:
The Basic PRLS program consists of six
hours of classroom lectures in one day
split among five modules:
Basic Leadership Principles
Leading a Meeting
Rotary, Your Club and You!
Communications
Basic Public Speaking
These lectures broadly cover the desired skills our leaders should have to effectively plan, organize, manage, pro-mote, present orally, and lead in a Rotary Club or Committee
setting.
Ok, so you missed it for this year, if you want to stay in the Santa Maria area. Put it on your “To Do” list for next year. It always is in July so set aside those Saturdays and as soon as I
know the exact day I will let you know.
Do I need to say that if you have taken Basic PRLS
you absolutely MUST attend the Master PRLS series.
What are you waiting for?
Another thought. If you took Master PRLS sometime in the past
you can do a refresher class for $25.00.
PRLS has evolved and has been vastly improved over the
years.
I have sat through what is now going on four years of PRLS
classes. Everyone is newer and better than the year before.
