The story ofBenvenuti Oil CompanyBenvenuti Oil Company was founded by my in-laws, Gotardoand Regena Benvenuti, in 1950. He was given the nickname “Ben”by his customers and for over 50 years his wife, friends and familyreferred to him as such. Ben grew up in the Fort Trumble sectionof New London with his six brothers and one sister. He met hiswife, Regena, just prior to being drafted into the army during WWIIand was married on July 3, 1942. While in the army, Ben servedas a Staff Sergeant in the 52nd Medical Battalion. He was stationedin Africa and participated in the Anzio Beach invasion.

A few years after leaving the army,Ben purchased his first truck andBenvenuti Oil Company, Inc. wasborn. In the early days he dideverything himself, includingdelivering oil, burner service andplumbing ins ta l la t ions. Theoperation started with one oil truckthat also doubled as the servicevehicle, and the business was run

from their home on Louis Street in Waterford. Ben worked day andnight responding to customer needs, and Regena handled thetelephone and all bookkeeping from her kitchen/office.

The second generation began in 1968 when I married their daughter,Deborah, and joined the family business which was now located on OliveStreet. When Ben and Regena retired in the 80’s, we took over the dailybusiness operations and continued the business based on Ben’s workethic. In the company’s history we have never had a work stoppage orlayoff, thanks mostly to our customer’s loyalty and our ability to provide topquality workmanship. We have also been able to continue to grow andnow serve homes from Waterford to Guilford, Pawcatuck and Colchester.In addition to oil we also provide our customers with heating, cooling, hotwater, air filtration, humidification and oil storage equipment.

Today, Benvenuti Oil Company is still a family business and in its thirdgeneration, with two of our sons in the company overseeing field andoffice operations. We also employ a staff of highly skilled technicians,experienced drivers and knowledgable office personnel. We have fivetrucks and eight service trucks to ensure our customers get rapid 24 houremergency response. In 1999 we builtan easily accessible 5,000 squarefoot office on Boston Post Road tobetter serve our customers.
